SUMMARY:Gallery at Marina Square Presents GARY FAIR
DESCRIPTION:Featured Artist:\nGARY FAIR \nType of Art:\nOIL \nShow title:\nOil Paintings by Gary Fair \nExhibition Dates:\nFEBRUARY 1 Through FEBRUARY 28\, 2016 \nOpening Reception:\nFRIDAY\, FEBRUARY 12TH from 5pm to 8pm \nWhere:\nGALLERY AT MARINA SQUARE\, 601 EMBARCADERO\, SUITE 10\, MORRO BAY\, CA 93442 \nContact:\n805-772-1068 \nHow Much:\nFREE \nArtist Statement:\nGrowing up in northern California\, and seeing sailboats on San Francisco Bay\, formed for Gary an indelible sense of wonder in the power of the wind. Being self taught requires Gary to work harder at seeing\, and capturing the image he feels. His work comes from his pure love for the light and shadow\, and the use of real color\, seen in and throughout where we live. Self taught artists paint from within\, first\, without instruction or the confines of rules and structures imposed by outside ideas and techniques. Their art is a part of them and involves a freedom that cannot be taught\, but can only be experienced. With Gary’s art\, one experiences his expression of moment and image.\nIn Gary’s words: “Through my paintings\, I try to capture the pleasure it is to live today\, here and now. Everything around us\, whether it’s sailing on the bay\, or viewing a flower garden\, you can be there through my art.”

SUMMARY:Arti Party: Ukrainian Eggs
DESCRIPTION:Please join us for a delightful afternoon of folk art\, cultural history and hearty food as we explore the legends and traditions of the humble Ukrainian Easter Egg. The practice of “writing” on eggs (“pysanky”) pre-dates Christianity and likely began in Slavic culture c. 5000-3500 B.C. Designs\, formats and colors were neither random nor simply decorative\, but were designed as powerful talismans essential to the conquest of Good over Evil. In this workshop\, you will learn the origins the modern American custom of decorating eggs and placing them in baskets of rich sweets on Easter morning. \nAfter a tasty Russian ‘peasant-style’ lunch and a vodka toast–accompanied by an introduction to the folklore and process–participants will design and create an egg using traditional symbols\, formats and colors of their choosing. This is actually done using batik–not painting–and we’ll take the wax resist process step-by-step until the glorious designs emerge from hiding at the end. Along the way\, we’ll learn some basic Russian words and even how to write a few special names using the Cyrillic alphabet. You’ll quickly understand why women were directed to have their Spring Cleaning completed–with their families well fed and children put to bed–before the egg rituals were begun. It’s a magical process that once started…you won’t want to stop!\n________________________________________________________________________\n‘PEASANT LUNCH’ MENU: (Vegetarian)\n~Mushroom-Potato Soup\n~Russian Cabbage Slaw\, Cucumber Radish Salad w/Sour Cream\n~Rye Bread\, Sunflower Muffins\, Butter\n~Hard-Boiled Eggs\, Pickled Beets\, Apples\, Carrots\, Pickles\n~’Kulich’ (Russian Easter Cake)\, ~Russian Tea Cakes & other Spring Sweets\n~Assorted Teas with Honey\n______________________________________________________________________________________\nNOTES:\n* Please bring 1/2 an egg box for transporting product home\n*We will be working over an open candle flame using hot wax and strong dyes. Good eye/hand coordination is needed. Suggested for ages for this event: 12+\n*Hair should be tied back from face and secured. Avoid dangling jewelry\, puffy sleeves\, etc. Dyes & hot wax can drip on clothing & shoes; wear old clothes/apron.\n*Supply kits & related items available for purchase.\n*Instructor is not liable for any accidents/injuries that could result from activity.\n*Allergy Alert: Dogs at residence; check Menu for possible food allergens.
