SUMMARY:Cuesta College's Harold J. Mossi Art Gallery presents Camille Rose Garcia
DESCRIPTION:A collection of layered\, broken narrative paintings of wasteland fairy tales by Los Angeles based artist Camille Rose Garcia will be on exhibit February 29 – March 25 at Cuesta College’s Harold J. Miossi Art Gallery. \nAs the child of a Mexican activist filmmaker father and a muralist/painter mother\, Garcia’s works are influenced by William Burroughs’ cut-up writings and surrealist film\, as well as vintage Walt Disney and Fleischer Studios cartoons. Her paintings act as critical commentaries on the failures of capitalist utopias\, blending nostalgic pop culture references with a satirical slant on modern society. \nGarcia’s works have been displayed internationally and in many art galleries\, including collections by the Los Angeles County Museum of Art and the San Jose Museum of Art. Garcia has also been featured in numerous magazines\, including Rolling Stone\, Juxtapoz\, and Modern Painter. \nThe Harold J Miossi Art Gallery is located in room 7170\, on the San Luis Obispo campus of Cuesta College. It is open Monday-Friday\, 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. and the 1st and 3rd Sundays from 12:00 p.m. – 4:00 p.m. Admission is free. For more information\, please call (805) 546-3202.

SUMMARY:Hospice of SLO County presents Stephen Jenkinson's "Making Meaning of the Ending of Days"
DESCRIPTION:Many among us now are crazy for meanings\, and crazed by seeking them out. The meanings of life aren’t inherited. What is inherited is the mandate to make meanings of life by how we live. The endings of life give life’s meanings a chance to show. The beginning of the end of our life\, and maybe our way of life\, is now in view. It has always been there. This isn’t punishment\, any more than dying is a punishment for being born. Instead\, the world whispers: All we need of you is that you be human\, now. Our work is to sort out what being human should be in such a time. This is a teaching for everyone who\, hell or high water\, is not going to pull off eternity\, after all. Dying is not the end of wisdom and wisdom is not exhausted by dying. Dying could be and must be the fullest expression and incarnation of what you’ve learned. It’s a moral obligation to die well. Our work is to sort out what being sane should be in such a time. This is a teaching for everyone who will fail to live forever. \nStephen openly and honestly addresses dying and death in our north American culture in ways that illicit deeper thought about personal philosophies\, relationships\, level of satisfaction with the way things are and changes we must make for the sake of ourselves and most importantly future generations. \nTickets for this talk are $110 in advance and $125 at the door (space permitting). A catered lunch is included in all ticket sales.\nThat Stephen chooses SLO County as one of the stops in his busy international speaking schedule is in itself a unique gift to our community.
