PLEASE JOIN US FOR LUNCH AND A DISCUSSION. \nThe Issue: Productivity losses from employee eldercare responsibilities.\nA recent MetLife study found that caregiving costs American employers as much as $33 billion annually due to absenteeism\, worker replacement costs\, workday crises\, and supervision costs. \nThe MetLife study recommends: “Employers should take proactive measures now to address these issues by making eldercare resources available…Current and future caregivers and employers need to plan carefully for their loved ones’ long term care needs…To help meet this challenge\, employers need to develop programs such as information\, referral\, and education programs.” \nThe Solution: Eldercare training programs that equip employees to head off crises and save all parties time\, headaches and money. \nThis is where your ideas and opinions come in. Morris & Garritano and Age Alliance\, a San Luis Obispo professional geriatric care management and consulting practice\, are considering developing a suite of eldercare training and support offerings. Research shows that although 20%-25% of employees report that they have caregiving responsibilities\, less than 1% of employees take advantage of their employer’s EAP offering. One of the reasons for the disparity\, according to a New York Times article\, is that “It was like going to the yellow pages\,” according to one employee. This will not be the case with our programs. \nWe need to hear from local HR professionals on how caregiving responsibilities affect your employees.
