SUMMARY:Watercolor Artist Virginia Mack Exihibit
DESCRIPTION:Virginia Mack is a native Californian. She has been exploring and savoring the wild lands of the state throughout her life. She has been living on the Central Coast for 15 years. She is a part-time instructor at Cuesta College in the fine arts departments. \nVirginia works primarily in watercolors and mixed media and is a colorist at heart. She builds most of her pieces in a wet-on-wet process (wet watercolor paints on wet watercolor paper) resolving the pieces as the paper slowly dries. She creates the forms with rich colors that she plays off against contrasting colors thereby subduing them while preserving their presence in layers of color. She often mixes the watercolor process with work using colored pencils\, pastel\, charcoal\, and pencil. \nVirginia received her education in fine arts at the University of California\, Berkeley. She has taken additional classes at The California College of Arts and Crafts and in independent workshops. \nOpening Reception: FRIDAY\, JANUARY 13TH\, 2017 from 5pm to 8pm\nEvent Contact Number: 805-772-1068

SUMMARY:The Importance of Being Earnest
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: Friday and Saturday at 7pm\, Saturday and Sunday at 2pm. Join us for a young performers’ version of Oscar Wilde’s comedy masterpiece! The story revolves around one of the most ingenious\, and hilarious\, cases of mistaken identity ever put into a play: Cecily Cardew and Gwendolen Fairfax are both in love with the same mythical suitor. The reliable Jack Worthing has wooed Gwendolen under the name Ernest while the adorable dandy Algernon Moncrieff has also posed as Ernest to win the heart of Cecily. When all four arrive at Jack’s country home on the same weekend accompanied by the formidable Lady Bracknell\, the gallants must grapple with the riotous consequences of their deceptions. \nThis show is presented as a Production Class for young actors and is part of our Academy of Creative Theatre educational program. All actors in this production are students under the age of 18.

SUMMARY:Hilarious Comedy "The Foreigner" Returns to The Melodrama
DESCRIPTION:One of the funniest comedies of the 20th Century\, The Foreigner\, makes its return to The Great American Melodrama this month. The play\, written by Larry Shue\, was previously produced by the theatre a decade ago and remains one of its most requested titles. Featuring some of the Central Coast’s favorite actors\, and talented guest artists from across the country\, the show promises to be a crowd-pleaser.\nThe Foreigner features a plot guaranteed to bring the laughs. Shy Englishman Charlie Baker (Billy Breed) just needs to get away from it all. He finds himself in a rural Georgia fishing lodge run by Betty Meeks (Suzy Newman)\, and occupied by the local pastor (Jeff Salsbury)\, his fiancé (Eleise Moore)\, and her brother (Toby Tropper). Soon everyone comes to believe that Charlie can’t speak English. What could possibly go wrong? Well soon Charlie overhears some deep secrets and diabolical plans\, and that’s when the hilarity begins. Rounding out the cast are Lawrence Lesher and Melodrama newcomer Matt Katzenmeier. Artistic Directer Dan Schultz helms the production.\nFollowing each performance of The Foreigner is the Melodrama’s hilarious vaudeville revue\, The Library Vaudeville Revue. This side-splitting half hour examines all things book-related. From boy wizards to book clubs\, nothing is off limits — the show is sure to be a best seller. Full of comedy and song\, The Library Vaudeville is written and directed by PCPA’s Matt Koenig.\nThe Foreigner and The Library Vaudeville Revue perform January 19 through March 5. Performances are Thursdays and Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $20 to $27\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. Season passes are also available. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975.
