SUMMARY:SLO Guild Hall Presents Raising the Solar Roof
DESCRIPTION:RAISING THE (SOLAR) ROOF\nA Modern Day Barn Raising for a\nSustainable\, Clean Energy Community Hall\nSaturday\, May 20\, 2017 12pm – 8pm\nGood Ol’ Fair for the Family\nDancing/Music/Beer-Wine/Games for the kids\nFood Truck lot\nMargarita Grove (21+)\nThe SLO Guild Hall\, originally known as the Grange\, was built in the early 1950’swith materials and labor donated by the community. It served as a community gathering place for activities that supported agriculture\, education about farming and a place to socialize. It was the first performing arts hall in San Luis Obispo. \nThe SLO Guild Hall is a part of the California Guild statewide organization that creates and submits legislation to the California Assembly and Senate to support small farmers\, agriculture\, and the environment. The State Guild has lobbyists in Sacramento to support that mission. Two recent resolutions to go before the legislature is a bill to support farming education for veterans and education for urban agriculture. \nThe SLO Guild Hall today maintains their mission of community\, support of agriculture and environment. The SLO Guild Hall has launched a project to address our carbon footprint by installing solar panels. The SLO Guild Hall will be the first sustainable building in SLO and a model for future remodels in SLO. \nThe vision for the Guild is to be fully sustainable\, which would include\nwater harvesting for maintaining grounds\, off grid passive cooling and heating\nusing wind as well as the solar panel wall. The solar portion of the\nproject\, at an estimated cost of $60\,000\, will not only power the hall with clean energy to further support community events but also allow for excess power to fuel electric vehicles. This installation of solar panels will also include a beautification of the south wall of the Hall. \nThe solar and water sustainability project will act as a model for other community organizations to work on the refurbishing existing of buildings. Studies show that remodeling buildings support more efficient use of resources and create less waste as opposed to constructing new buildings. This model supports sustainability of land\, energy and resources.\nThe solar wall project is being launched by architect Ken Haggard and Cal Poly.
