SUMMARY:TAKING SIDES: SLO REP’s Ubu’s Other Shoe Staged Reading
DESCRIPTION:Taking Sides \nWritten by Ronald Harwood\nDirected by Selene Betancourt\nUbu’s Other Shoe Artistic Direction by Michael Siebrass\nShow Times \nAugust 11 – August 12\, 2017\n Friday @ 7 pm\n Saturday @ 2 pm & 7 pm\nAbout \nTAKING SIDES takes place in the American Zone of occupied Berlin\, in 1946. It is here the American portion of the De-Nazification Tribunal has convened to take over the questioning of Wilhelm Furtwängler\, one of the outstanding conductors of his time. Furtwängler was at the height of his career in 1933\, eclipsing all other conductors\, just as Hitler became Chancellor of Germany. As the terrors of Nazism spread\, many of Furtwängler’s colleagues fled the country\, whether out of protest or persecution\, but Furtwängler mysteriously chose to stay. Did he stay to do as much good as possible in the face of evil\, as so many believe\, or did he stay to serve Hitler\, of which he was later accused? The Tribunal’s evidence has been prepared firstly by the British\, and then taken over by two groups of Americans: one in Wiesbaden which assisted in Furtwängler’s defense\, the other in Berlin which helped build the case against him. Little is known of the motives and methods of this group\, which is the focus of TAKING SIDES. What is known is that Furtwängler was humiliated\, pursued and\, even after his acquittal\, disinformation followed him. This may or may not have been justified—it all depends on the side you take.

SUMMARY:Jeremy Baker Fine Art Photography
DESCRIPTION:Featured Artist: JEREMY BAKER \nOpening Reception: FRIDAY\, AUGUST 11TH– from 5pm to 8pm \nType of Art: FINE ART PHOTOGRAPHY \nExhibit Beginning: AUGUST 1\, 2017	Exhibit Ending: AUGUST 29\, 2017 \nLocation: GALLERY AT MARINA SQUARE\, 601 EMBARCADERO\, SUITE 10\, MORRO BAY\, CA 93442 \nEvent Contact Number: 805-772-1068 \nArtist Statement:\nIn Jeremy’s own words:\n“Whether a scenic landscape\, a star filled night\, the story kept by rural and urban decay\, or trying to reveal the soul of a person through making their portrait\, I am in constant search for the beauty life holds. And with this search\, I find it difficult to fit my photography into one photographic genre. \n“In the creation of my art\, I use several different types of cameras\, but nothing connects me to the spirit of the photographic process like shooting film. I find the beauty of the cameras and their use as much a part of my craft as developing the film and seeing the image to print. To me\, my film images have a soul all of their own. \n“It is truly a pleasure to be able o share with you\, a glimpse of the world through my eyes.”

SUMMARY:The Great American Melodrama presents the Brand New Musical The Karaoke Kid
DESCRIPTION:This summer The Great American Melodrama is rocking out with the world premiere musical comedy The Karaoke Kid. Set right here on the Central Coast\, The Karaoke Kid is a musical parody of classic 1980’s\nmovies like The Karate Kid. It features new versions of classic rock and pop songs\, and a hilarious script penned by Melodrama Artistic Director Dan Schultz. “We are thrilled to share the Karaoke Kid with our\nsummer audience. It’s the prefect show for people who like big laughs and great music\,” Schultz says. \nThe Karaoke Kid is the story of Daniel Mancuso (Mike Fiore). After he and his mom relocate to Pismo Beach from the East Coast\, poor Daniel just doesn’t fit in. He has no friends\, no car\, and he’s bullied by the\ncool kids at school. And it seems that in Pismo\, rather than fighting to solve problems\, the kids battle… karaoke battle. There’s just one problem\, Daniel can’t sing. But then he meets a mysterious old master\, Mrs. Muskogee (Sierra Wells)\, who trains him in the ancient art of karaoke. Along the way\, Daniel falls in love with the popular girl (Rachel Tietz) and starts finding his voice. Can he overcome his fears and win the Five Cities Karaoke Contest? Find out in this loving tribute to 80’s and ‘90s music that’s fun for the whole family. The show is directed and written by Dan Schultz\, lyrics by Colleen Perry\, choreography by Zach Johnson\,\nand musical direction by Kevin Lawson. \nFollowing each performance of The Karaoke Kid is the Melodrama’s new vaudeville revue\, The Great Outdoors. The revue features comedy sketches and songs all about camping\, hiking\, and making your way in\nthe natural world. From bug bites\, to songs around the campfire\, The Great Outdoors Vaudeville Revue is a perfect way to end an evening full of laughs. The revue is directed by Suzy Newman with musical direction\nby Kevin Lawson. \nThe Karaoke Kid and the Great Outdoors Vaudeville Revue perform June 15 – September 16. Performances are Wednesday through Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. Beginning July 13\,\nthese shows will run in repertory with The Tavern and begin playing on alternate nights. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $20 to $27\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children.
