SUMMARY:The Great American Melodrama presents the Brand New Musical The Karaoke Kid
DESCRIPTION:This summer The Great American Melodrama is rocking out with the world premiere musical comedy The Karaoke Kid. Set right here on the Central Coast\, The Karaoke Kid is a musical parody of classic 1980’s\nmovies like The Karate Kid. It features new versions of classic rock and pop songs\, and a hilarious script penned by Melodrama Artistic Director Dan Schultz. “We are thrilled to share the Karaoke Kid with our\nsummer audience. It’s the prefect show for people who like big laughs and great music\,” Schultz says. \nThe Karaoke Kid is the story of Daniel Mancuso (Mike Fiore). After he and his mom relocate to Pismo Beach from the East Coast\, poor Daniel just doesn’t fit in. He has no friends\, no car\, and he’s bullied by the\ncool kids at school. And it seems that in Pismo\, rather than fighting to solve problems\, the kids battle… karaoke battle. There’s just one problem\, Daniel can’t sing. But then he meets a mysterious old master\, Mrs. Muskogee (Sierra Wells)\, who trains him in the ancient art of karaoke. Along the way\, Daniel falls in love with the popular girl (Rachel Tietz) and starts finding his voice. Can he overcome his fears and win the Five Cities Karaoke Contest? Find out in this loving tribute to 80’s and ‘90s music that’s fun for the whole family. The show is directed and written by Dan Schultz\, lyrics by Colleen Perry\, choreography by Zach Johnson\,\nand musical direction by Kevin Lawson. \nFollowing each performance of The Karaoke Kid is the Melodrama’s new vaudeville revue\, The Great Outdoors. The revue features comedy sketches and songs all about camping\, hiking\, and making your way in\nthe natural world. From bug bites\, to songs around the campfire\, The Great Outdoors Vaudeville Revue is a perfect way to end an evening full of laughs. The revue is directed by Suzy Newman with musical direction\nby Kevin Lawson. \nThe Karaoke Kid and the Great Outdoors Vaudeville Revue perform June 15 – September 16. Performances are Wednesday through Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. Beginning July 13\,\nthese shows will run in repertory with The Tavern and begin playing on alternate nights.
