The Great American Melodrama presents the hilarious musical spoof Scary Poppins\, opening September 20. \nScary Poppins tells the story of Jack and Jill Peabody (Ben Abbott and Annali Fuchs-Wackowski) who live in London with their widowed father\, Professor Peabody (Jeff Salsbury). He’s a nutty inventor with little time for his children. When he hires a nanny\, though\, the whole family gets more than they bargained for: instead of Mary Poppins\, they get her twin sister\, Scary Poppins! This Poppins is a frightening creature who arrives with creepy music\, mind control powers\, and a host of wacky friends. But when the evil Russian ambassador (Billy Breed) shows up\, it’s up to Scary to save the day. Written by Ben Millet\, with direction and choreography by Eric Hoit\, this show is full of outrageous characters\, hilarious song satires and pop culture references. It’s a “practically perfect” parody for the whole family! \nFollowing each performance of Scary Poppins is the Halloween Party Vaudeville Revue. It’s no trick\, this new revue is a treat! The talented performers of the Melodrama are hosting a special Halloween costume party. Everyone is invited to hear them sing spooky favorites\, tell corny jokes\, and dance the night away! The new revue is a hilarious send up the Halloween season. Rachel Tietz directs and Michael Wilkins provides musical direction and accompaniment. \nThe Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. DESCRIPTION:Softec invites you and your kids to celebrate our 10th Annual Student Robotics EXPO. Come and help celebrate this year’s theme “Robots and Sports”. \nOn Monday\, September 24 from 5:30pm to 8:30pm at the Alex Madonna Inn Expo Center our world renown local high school robotics clubs will demonstrate their competitive robots from F.I.R.S.T\, VEX EDR. This spectacular event also features junior high and elementary robotics teams who use educational robotic leagues VEX IQ & FIRST® LEGO® League to advance STEM in schools! Meet local organizations who continue to support Robotics and Technology in education including: The Society of Women Engineers (SWE) & Cal Poly Robotics club\, SLO Makerspace\, and Cuesta College. \nEnjoy interactive stations for hands on experience with drones\, robots\, Virtual Reality\, and other special activities. We also have a special visit from SLO County Sheriff Bomb Squad; they will be demonstrating the capabilities of their bomb handling robot. \nRace your drone through the course and compete for the best time! \nElectric Vehicles will be on display in the top parking lot. If you have an EV\, bring it and you will be able to park in this lot as well. \nIn addition to $13\,000 in grants distributed to high school teams\, participants and teams will also be competing for best in theme for “Robots and Sports”. We have fabulous partners which make this event possible. MINDBODY software\, PG&E\, Digital West\, and Santa Maria Valley Chamber of Commerce. We also want to thank all of our sponsors who help us throughout the year and allow us to give grants for high school robotics. \nCome hungry! You may purchase food from Ta-Dahh Specialty Foods (Kid & Family Friendly food at reasonable prices) at the main entrance to the Expo Center during the event. Food service will begin at 5:00pm.
