SUMMARY:Scary Poppins at The Great American Melodrama
DESCRIPTION:SHOWTIMES: Wednesday through Friday at 7 p.m.\, Saturday at 3 and 7 p.m.\, and Sunday at 6 p.m. \nIt’s Super-Nanny-Gone-Ballistic-Expialidocious! The Great American Melodrama presents the hilarious musical spoof Scary Poppins\, opening September 20. \nScary Poppins tells the story of Jack and Jill Peabody (Ben Abbott and Annali Fuchs-Wackowski) who live in London with their widowed father\, Professor Peabody (Jeff Salsbury). He’s a nutty inventor with little time for his children. When he hires a nanny\, though\, the whole family gets more than they bargained for: instead of Mary Poppins\, they get her twin sister\, Scary Poppins! This Poppins is a frightening creature who arrives with creepy music\, mind control powers\, and a host of wacky friends. But when the evil Russian ambassador (Billy Breed) shows up\, it’s up to Scary to save the day. Written by Ben Millet\, with direction and choreography by Eric Hoit\, this show is full of outrageous characters\, hilarious song satires and pop culture references. It’s a “practically perfect” parody for the whole family! \nFollowing each performance of Scary Poppins is the Halloween Party Vaudeville Revue. It’s no trick\, this new revue is a treat! The talented performers of the Melodrama are hosting a special Halloween costume party. Everyone is invited to hear them sing spooky favorites\, tell corny jokes\, and dance the night away! The new revue is a hilarious send up the Halloween season. Rachel Tietz directs and Michael Wilkins provides musical direction and accompaniment. \nThe Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $21 to $28\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975.

SUMMARY:Cuesta College presents: 34th annual Central Coast Writers Conference
DESCRIPTION:Whether you are a writer in search of a publisher or have a great idea for a movie\, the 34th annual Central Coast Writers Conference (CCWC) is designed to help you get closer to your dream. Located directly in the heart of California’s beloved coastal region\, Cuesta College will host the CCWC September 27th to 29th\, 2018. \nFor the last three years\, CCWC director\, Teri Bayus\, has added a steady stream of Hollywood screenwriters to the mix of more than 30 widely acclaimed\, best-selling authors\, editors\, agents\, poets and publishers on faculty. 2018’s three-day conference will feature three keynote presentations and 80 workshops across seven tracks\, to cover all aspects of the writing process. \n“I am more thrilled then ever with the quality of workshops\, staff\, agents and publishers who are attending this year\,” stated Bayus. “We have proven that an investment in the CCWC has fashioned books published and launched successful writing careers. I know our new Master Classes\, with their intimate access to the industry’s best\, will leave an indelible mark on the students.” \nNewly added Master Classes (MC) will be taught by renowned authors such as Peter Dunne\, recipient of 33 Emmys (insert R trademark symbol)\, and Jonathan Maberry\, Netflix star and award-winning horror author. These six-hour writing intensive workshops will cover everything from self-publishing to writing a hook for Hollywood directors. MCs allow 20 people per class and are $150 each. They may be added on to conference registration or taken independently. \nOpening the conference Thursday night is yet another new event: The Wine\, Women\, Words and Wisdom (WWWW) panel\, emceed by Jeanette Trumpeter. This panel is included with registration or available as a stand-alone event for $30\, and includes appetizers and wine. \n“The purpose of the panel is to have an open-ended discussion about the challenges and rewards of being a woman writer. WWWW gets behind the curtain and discusses the blood\, sweat\, tears and victories that got these women to where they are. We all learn by identification\, and I think many people are going to identify with their stories\,” said Trumpeter. \nThe CCWC welcomes all\, from beginning writers to teachers and even teens. Speaking to its effect\, recently published author of The Joys of Raising Boys: The Good\, the Bad and the Hilarious\, Diane Auten said\, “Attending the CCWC the last few years is what finally catapulted me to finish and publish my book. I wouldn’t miss it for the world. Best conference around.” \nFor more information on the conference\, pricing and events\, please visit centralcoastwritersconference.com. Further questions may be directed towards Teri Bayus at (805) 305-0579.
