SUMMARY:The Great American Melodrama Presents: THE HOLIDAY EXTRAVAGANZA
DESCRIPTION:November 15 – December 31 \nNo holiday season on the Central Coast is complete without seeing The Holiday Extravaganza\, at the Great American Melodrama in Oceano. The annual production features the timeless classic A Christmas Carol\, a hilarious fractured fairytale\, and a vaudeville revue featuring the song\, dance\, and comedy of the season. Whether you’ve been naughty or nice\, The Holiday Extravaganza is a perfect for any holiday wish list.  \n  \nThe show opens with a one-act version of Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol\, directed by Melodrama Artistic Director Dan Schultz. Miserly Ebenezer Scrooge (Billy Breed)\, who thinks Christmas is a “humbug\,” is visited by spirits who teach him the true meaning of the holiday season. These magical encounters lead to heart-warming scenes of redemption\, punctuated with songs and laughter. \n  \nFollowing A Christmas Carol is the comedic operetta Rapunzel\, or Hair Today\, Gone Tomorrow by Eric Hoit and Marian Partee. This hysterical musical lark\, directed by Hoit\, follows Rapunzel (Annali Fuchs Wackowski) and a wacky cast of characters as they let their hair down. They sing classical music with fractured-fairy tale lyrics in a 30-minute production sure to delight one and all. \n  \nThe evening concludes with the company’s traditional vaudeville revue. This year’s show is based on children’s letters to Santa Claus. Enjoy musical numbers like the ever-popular “Reindeer Rap\,” the famous Water Glass Orchestra\, and Five Golden Rings Chorale. Musical direction and accompaniment for The Holiday Extravaganza is provided by Mike Wilkins with choreography by Sydni Abenido and Zach Johnson.  \n  \nMany performances are added to the Melodrama’s regular schedule to accommodate demand for this Central Coast favorite. A performance calendar can be found at www.americanmelodrama.com//show-calendar. This is the Melodrama’s most popular show of the season\, and tickets are sure to sell out soon. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $26 and $30\, with discounts available for seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. \n  \nThe Melodrama also announces that their affordable 2019 season subscriptions are on sale now. The theatre is offering a slate of seven comedies\, musicals\, and melodramas – all followed by ever-popular vaudeville revues. The complete lineup will be available at www.americanmelodrama.com/2019-season. Those purchasing passes to all seven shows receive a 30% discount off of the top ticket price. \n  \nFor more information and to purchase tickets or passes\, call the Melodrama Box Office at 805-489-2499\, or visit their website at www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975. \n

DESCRIPTION:SLO Joins Hundreds of Local Communities to Hold Day for Suicide Loss Survivors \nHospice SLO County sponsoring events for International Survivors of Suicide Loss Day \nSAN LUIS OBISPO\, CA – On Saturday\, November 17th\, Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (Hospice SLO County) will join The American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) to offer special programs for those who have lost someone to suicide. \nEvery year over 44\,000 Americans die by suicide\, leaving family members and friends to deal with the loss and learn how to move forward. San Luis Obispo is one of hundreds of locations worldwide in which survivors of suicide loss will gather on this day to connect with and find support from one another. Events will be offered in both English and Spanish at two locations.\n“This day is an opportunity for people who have lost somebody to suicide to be with others who have shared that experience\,” said Tony Huffaker\, Director of Counseling at Hospice SLO County. “To interact with others who have had a similar experience can be invaluable.”\nAt 11 am\, the program will begin at both locations with a presentation of A Daughter’s Journey\, a new AFSP-produced Survivor Day documentary that traces the grief and healing journey following a suicide loss. The presentation will be followed by a discussion and a light lunch. From 1:30 – 3:30 pm\, Marriage and Family Therapists Anne Kellogg and Marina Garza will hold workshops using art to express feelings related to a loss by suicide. Due to limited space\, pre-registration is required for the art workshop. \nEnglish events:  \nSaturday\, November 17th from 10:30 am – 3:30 pm\nFrench Hospital’s Copeland Health Education Pavilion\, 1911 Johnson Ave\, San Luis Obispo \nSpanish events: \nSaturday\, November 17th from 10:30 am – 3:30 pm\nHospice SLO County\, 1304 Pacific Street\, San Luis Obispo \nAll events are offered free of charge. SUMMARY:Clark Center for the Performing Arts presents Rockapella
DESCRIPTION:“The best musical instrument of all is the human voice – if you’ve seen Rockapella you know that’s the truth.” \n– USA Today \nAs one of the originators of the astonishing full-band sound of “contemporary” a cappella\, Rockapella has shown every audience the raw power of pure vocal talent and originality. Their influence is felt everywhere these days- in a capella music shows on network television\, the highly successful Pitch Perfect movies\, and in student vocal groups that have become popular on college campuses across the country. \nRockapella achieved national fame on PBS’s Where In The World Is Carmen Sandiego? and since then they’ve toured the globe and provided a powerful soundtrack to several generations of vocal music fans\, while keeping it all fresh along the way. \nWith buckets of catchy original pop songs\, and complete contemporary revisions of sparkling Motown\, pop\, and soul classics\, this group has always been the one to watch. \n“There’s nothing in the way between us and the audience; it’s very human music\,” says Rockapella’s Jeff Thacher. \nRockapella – No instruments\, no tracks\, no mirrors… but always awesome. \n\nReserved Seating: Gold-$55 Silver-$48 Bronze-$42*\nTickets available through Box Office ONLY until July 31.
