Go! The hysterical comedy Unnecessary Farce by Paul Slade Smith arrives at The Great American Melodrama on March 14. Featuring some of the Melodrama’s funniest actors\, Unnecessary Farce is sure to tickle event he most fickle funny-bones. “This is a show for people who love big laughs and big characters\,” says Dan Schultz\, the Melodrama’s Artistic Director.  \nLike all farces\, the convoluted plot sets up a series of hilarious misunderstandings. Set in a cheap motel room\, an embezzling mayor (Billy Breed) meets with his female accountant (Rebecca Tucker). In the next room\, two cops (Eleise Moore and Nick Wilder) wait to catch the meeting on video. But there’s some confusion as to who’s in which room and who’s taken the money. Then things go to another level when the Scottish hit man with anger issues shows up. This show is truly laugh-a-minute. Some content may not be appropriate for little kids\, so the show is rated PG. \nFollowing every performance of Unnecessary Farce is the brand new vaudeville revue\, The Jungle Adventure. Put together by Melodrama favorite Katie Worley Beck\, it’s a musical trip into the jungle primeval. You’ll meet a witch doctor\, take a jungle cruise\, and see Tarzan and Jane like never before.  Featuring song\, dance\, and comedy\, The Jungle Adventure is the perfect end to a night of great theatre. \nThese shows play March 14 – April 28. Performances are Wednesday through Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $23 to $30\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. DESCRIPTION:The fourth annual Love SLO community wide day of service will be held this weekend in San Luis Obispo\, California as part of the national Love Our Cities movement. The San Luis Obispo community will come together to celebrate their hometown and work alongside one another to benefit organizations throughout the city. This year’s community-wide day of service will be held this Saturday on March 16\, 2019. \nLove SLO gained tremendous momentum last year\, with over 1\,000 volunteers signed-up to serve and over 49 service projects in place throughout San Luis Obispo. Love SLO has a vision to make San Luis Obispo an even better place to live. Inspired by the desire to meet needs of local community members\, demonstrate kindness\, and impact lives\, a group of community leaders came together to turn their vision into a reality. \nLove SLO will kick off at 8:00am with a morning festival in Mission Plaza with an encouraging rally before volunteers and project leaders disperse to their designated service locations. The morning rally will have breakfast provided by the San Luis Obispo City Fire Fighters Association\, coffee\, face painting\, photo station\, an opportunity to learn hands-only CPR\, activities for kids\, and the police department\, fire department\, and San Luis Ambulance will be onsite with their emergency vehicles. Service projects will run from 9:00am-12:00pm. \nThe Central Coast is known for its strong sense of community. Love SLO is proud to offer an opportunity for community members to showcase their giving spirit. SUMMARY:Cal Poly Choirs' 'All of Us'
DESCRIPTION:The Cal Poly Choirs’ Winter Concert\, “All of Us\,” is set for 8 p.m. Saturday\, March 16\, in the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center. \n  \nThe concert theme is diversity and inclusion\, and the program will include positive and uplifting musical selections. Works by J.S. Bach\, Benjamin Britten\, Moses Hogan\, Jake Runestad\, John Rutter and others will be performed. The concert will also include selections from the Tony Award winning musical “Dear Evan Hansen” and “The Greatest Showman\,” the 2017 musical film. \n  \nThe concert title is derived from the final movement\, “All of Us\,” from Craig Hella Johnson’s cantata\, “Considering Matthew Shepard.” The work was composed on the 20th anniversary of the tragic death of Shepard in Laramie\, Wyoming. The combined choirs — PolyPhonics\, University Singers\, Chamber Choir and the Advanced Women’s Choir — will perform the work. This will be the premiere performance of the Advanced Women’s Choir\, which is made up of 20 advanced treble singers who perform especially challenging repertoire for high voices.    \n  \nIn addition to musical selections\, students from the Theatre and Dance Department will present a variety of monologues highlighting various social issues.  \n  \nDirector of Choral Activities Scott Glysson conducts the choirs\, and Paul Woodring is the accompanist for the choirs. \n  \nA silent auction will be held in the lobby throughout the performance as a fundraiser for PolyPhonic\, which will be making a spring tour of the Bay Area in March. The choir will give a concert at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption in San Francisco on March 24\, and will perform at four high schools March 25-26. Audience members can bid before the concert\, during intermission and after the concert on the items donated from local businesses. \n  \nTickets to the concert are $12 or $14 for the public\, and $9 or $12 for students. Event parking is sponsored by the PAC. Tickets are sold at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To order by phone\, call 805-SLO-4TIX (805-756-4849).  \n  \nThe Music Department offers a 10 percent discount to patrons who buy season tickets to four of its events through the Cal Poly Ticket Office; a 15 percent discount is given on tickets to five or more events. \n  \nThe concert is sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department\, College of Liberal Arts and Instructionally Related Activities program.
