Are you already installed as the President but struggling to lead efficient and effective board meetings? Or\, are you scheduled to assume the role of President next year and want to be prepared to “hit the ground running” when you start your term. If you answered “yes” to these questions\, this class is for you! \nThis workshop is tailored to organizations that do not have a paid executive director\, but all are welcome. \n\nJoin us and learn: \n\nThe responsibilities\, opportunities\, and limitations of your new role. *\nPlanning your year\nEverything you need to know about board meeting agendas: how to set them\, follow them and use a consent agenda protocol to make your meetings more productive.\nStrategies you can employ to keep meetings on-track and on-time.\nBasics of voting procedures and terminology.\n\n*Participants are asked to have a copy of their organizational bylaws handy to ensure they understand the limitations of their role-specific to their nonprofit. \n\nThis class is online; link will be sent with registration acknowledgement. This class may be recorded. \nInstructor: Michael Simkins\, Ed.D. \nMichael has been a member of several nonprofit boards and served as board secretary\, treasurer\, and president. His professional experience spans the education and nonprofit sectors from being a school principal in Los Osos and Cal Poly lecturer to acting CEO of a major Silicon Valley nonprofit. He is immediate past president at San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre and president of his local property-owners association. Currently\, he is Spokes’ Executive Director.

SUMMARY:Art After Dark
DESCRIPTION:Art After Dark is a self-guided art walk on the First Friday of each month that allows the community to experience visual\, literary\, and performing art in SLO County in galleries\, non-profit organizations\, and other businesses. This event is free and open to all. We encourage people to explore the creativity originating on the Central Coast. \nIn March\, Art After Dark will highlight Arts Education Month with a neighborhood block party in the Mo-Jo neighborhood\, featuring an “instrument petting zoo” from SLO Youth Symphony\, alongside Raku (ceramics) firing demonstrations outside Anam Cre Pottery Studio. More spotlights will continue throughout the year.
