DESCRIPTION:Fei Xie\, principal bassoonist of the Minnesota Orchestra\, presents a mini-recital of works for bassoon and piano.  He will be joined by pianist Chiao-Wen Cheng\, piano faculty at the Eastman School of Music and principal keyboardist of the Rochester Philharmonic.\n\nBÖDDECKER – Sonata Soprano “La Monica”\nBITSCH – Concertino for Bassoon and Piano\nFRANÇAIX – Divertissement\nTCHAIKOVSKY – Nocturne\, op. 19 no. 4\nTORRIANI – Divertimento on a theme from Donizetti’s Lucia di Lammermoor\n \nAll Midday Mini-Concerts last no longer than one hour without an intermission.\nWhile these are free events\, reservations are required. If you so choose\, there is an option to make a suggested $10 donation per ticket.\nChiao-Wen Cheng\nA versatile musician and educator\, Taiwanese pianist Chiao-Wen Cheng has performed as soloist\, recitalist\, and chamber musician in major venues throughout the United States\, Europe\, and Asia. Cheng has become a sought-after collaborative partner through her sensitive playing\, vibrant sound colors\, and detailed voicing. Cheng’s solo engagements include concerto performances with the Fort Worth Symphony\, Greece Symphony\, and Taiwan Shin-Min Orchestra\, as well as solo recitals in major venues. Cheng has won numerous piano competitions and awards\, including the Clara Ascherfeld Award in Excellence in Accompanying at Peabody Institute (2009); the Excellence in Accompanying Award at the Eastman School of Music (2010); and first prizes in the the Piano Texas International Academy and Festival Concerto Competition (2010) and the Schubert Club Competition (2012). Cheng began piano lessons with her aunt at the age of four. She holds a doctoral degree from the Eastman School of Music\, and is currently an Assistant Professor of Collaborative Piano at the Eastman School of Music. She joined the Rochester Philharmonic Orchestra as a Principal Keyboard in 2022.

SUMMARY:The California Mid-State Fair Presents: Slaughter
DESCRIPTION:Join the California Mid-State Fair for the free concert series every night on the 805 Beer Frontier Stage. \nOn July 24th\, 8:00 p.m.\, check out Slaughter. \nIn 1990\, Slaughter hit radio\, MTV and the U.S. touring circuit like a tornado\, coming seemingly out of nowhere to roll through everything in its path and turn it upside down. Touring the world with bands that they loved\, Kiss\, Ozzy\, and others\, meant the good times were just a song away\, and their first hit single\, “Up All Night” certainly fit into that mold. Their second chart-topper\, “Fly To The Angels”\, was more representative of the spirituality and awareness that goes into most of the band’s music and lyrics. \nConcerts free with purchase of day admission to the California Mid-State Fair.
