DESCRIPTION:  \nCal Poly’s Center for Coastal Marine Sciences cordially invites the community to a 1.2-mile-long\, round-trip walking tour of the Cal Poly Pier from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday\, Nov. 15. Come learn about local ocean environments and marine life. The pier is located on Avila Beach Drive\, just west of the San Luis Creek Bridge\, in Avila Beach. For more information about this free event\, go to marine.calpoly.edu. \nDirections to The Cal Poly Pier \nFrom the South\n\nTravel north on route 101 to the Avila Beach Dr. Exit.\nTake a left and Follow signs to Port San Luis.\nAfter passing Avila Beach on the left\, go over a bridge crossing San Luis Creek.\nLess than 1/4 mile past the bridge on the left is a gate along a fenced enclosure.\nThis is the base of the pier facility and home of the Cal Poly Marine Science Center\n\nFrom the North\n\nTravel south on route 101 to the San Luis Drive Exit.\nTake a right on San Luis Drive for 2 miles.\nCross over San Luis Creek Bridge and take a Right onto Avila Beach Dr.\nFollow signs to Port San Luis.\nAfter passing Avila Beach on the left\, go over a bridge crossing San Luis Creek.\nLess than 1/4 mile past the bridge on the left is a gate along a fenced enclosure.\nThis is the base of the pier facility and home of the Cal Poly Marine Science Center

DESCRIPTION:Experience the debut of Opera San Luis Obispo’s restored 1924 Steinway Duo Art Grand Piano which was generously donated by the Hayward family in 2023. After almost two years of restoration\, we are excited to resurrect Ignas Paderewsky\, George Gershwin\, Vladimir Horowitz\, Artur Rubenstein\, and other great composers and pianists that recorded rolls especially for this instrument over 100 years ago. \nEVENT INCLUDES WINE AND LIGHT APPETIZERS! \nYou may think you’ve experienced these composers on CD or video\, but it’s nothing like hearing their spirit perform on the actual piano they recorded rolls for at the turn of the 20th century. You’ll be fascinated watching the leather bellows\, brass chains\, and authentic ebony and ivory keys mix together in this industrial age mechanical marvel of genius: the finest player piano ever made: a Steinway converted “Model B” 6-foot 10-inch grand piano currently appraised at over $120\,000! Between 1912 and 1932\, Steinway made only 6\,000 of these instruments and today fewer than 500 remain in restored working condition. \nThis exciting recital takes place in a restored Victorian era home in downtown San Luis Obispo. Join us as Maestro Alhadeff narrates a fantastic afternoon of beautiful music\, refined atmosphere\, and friends of the arts. Attendance is limited to 45 guests. Tickets are $70.00 each and include wine and light appetizers.
