DESCRIPTION:The Palm Theater will be showing Selma\, in Partnership with R.A.C.E Matters.  Set in Selma\, Alabama\, where segregation and voter suppression were at their most brutal\, the film chroncials the historic 1965 voting rights marches that were met with state violence and national outrage. The confrontation ultimately forced President Lyndon B. Johnson to publicly commit to change\, paving the way for the passage of the Voting Rights Act. Directed by Ava DuVernay and anchored by David Oyelowo’s powerful portrayal of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.\, the film remains an essential and urgent work to mark Martin Luther King Jr. Day.
