DESCRIPTION:Guest artists Rafael Montero\, tenor; and John Sloboda\, piano; will present a recital of the songs of Pedro Ximénez Abril Tirado. \nXiménez (1780-1856) was one of Latin America’s most successful and prolific composers of the early 19th century\, whose work spanned the establishment of independent Latin American states in the period after the end of the Spanish Empire. SUMMARY:Performing Arts Center Presents: Proxima Parada with the SLO Symphony
DESCRIPTION:Próxima Parada is coming home for a one-night-only performance with the San Luis Obispo Symphony. The evening takes place at Harold Miossi Hall on the Cal Poly campus\, where the band members attended college\, met one another\, and began making music together before becoming a touring band. They’ll be performing original music written in San Luis Obispo by Próxima Parada\, reimagined in collaboration with the SLO Symphony\, a cornerstone of the Central Coast’s arts scene. \nThis concert brings the story full circle: local artists returning to the people and the institution that helped shape their journey from busking and playing at SLO coffee shops in 2012 to performing at clubs and theaters around the country. It’s a celebration of community support\, education\, and the lasting impact of the arts in San Luis Obispo—a love letter to the city and the people who have made all of this possible. \n★ Limited VIP afterparty tickets are available that includes dessert\, wine\, and a relaxed meet-and-greet with the band.

DESCRIPTION:There are four jazz combos: the Contemporary Combo\, Composer/Arranger Combo\, Latin Combo and Jazz Standards Combo. The small ensembles\, of about eight students each\, explore a wide spectrum of jazz performance\, from modern and traditional styles to original compositions and arrangements\, Afro-Cuban and Brazilian–influenced repertory\, and classic standards. \nThe focus of the groups is strong ensemble interaction\, stylistic authenticity\, creative expression\, and the development of each musician’s individual voice within the jazz tradition.
