SUMMARY:SLO Little Theatre presents "The Drowsy Chaperone"
DESCRIPTION:The San Luis Obispo Little Theatre is thrilled to launch their landmark 70th Season of live theatre in San Luis Obispo with the Tony Award-winning musical The Drowsy Chaperone. The delightful “musical within a comedy” is at once a parody and an homage to Broadway musicals from the 1920’s. With book by Bob Martin and Don McKellar and music and lyrics by Lisa Lambert and Greg Morrison\, The Drowsy Chaperone opened on Broadway in 2006\, winning multiple awards and quickly becoming a sold-out favorite in New York\, Los Angeles\, Chicago\, San Francisco and around the country. The Drowsy Chaperone runs August 19-September 11\, Thursdays\, Fridays and Saturdays at 7 pm\, Saturdays and Sundays at 2 pm. Special “Martini Nights” at the theatre bar will be offered on August 20\, August 26\, September 2 and September 9. Tickets range from $15 to $35 and are available at slolittletheatre.org or by calling (805) 786-2440. \nWith the houselights down\, an actor referred to only as “man in chair” appears on stage and puts on his favorite record: the cast recording of a fictitious 1928 musical. The recording comes to life as the man in the chair looks on\, commenting on the action as the music and the comedy play out. All the elements of a madcap 1920s musical are there: two lovers on the eve of their wedding\, a bumbling best man\, a desperate theatre producer\, a not-so-bright hostess\, a daring aviatrix\, two gangsters posing as pastry chefs\, a misguided Don Juan and\, of course\, an intoxicated chaperone.\nThe Drowsy Chaperone pays hilarious tribute to the fun\, frivolity and delight of American musical comedy.\nThe Little Theatre’s production of The Drowsy Chaperone is directed by Suzy Newman\, with musical direction by Mark Robertshaw and choreography by Drew Silvaggio. The talented cast features Mike Mesker as “Man in Chair\,” Karen Kahn Pearson as the Drowsy Chaperone\, Melanie Marie as Janet (the bride) and Tim Stewart as Robert (the groom.) Other members of the ensemble are Natalia Salsbury\, Dory Duke\, Vincent Lemos\, Darrell Haynes\, Amanda Thayer\, Erin Parsons\, Naomi Skee\, Claire Edmonds\, Travis Nefores\, Ed Cardoza\, Larry Kaml\, Isaac Bromby and John Mackey. The show is generously sponsored by Catherine and Richard Luckett and Maryellen and Michael Simkins. Our generous wine sponsor for The Drowsy Chaperone is Castoro Cellars. \nFor more information about the show or the Little Theatre’s 70th Anniversary Season\, please contact Patty Thayer at (805) 786-2440 or pattythayer@slolittletheatre.org.

SUMMARY:Cen Dallidet: At the Edge of a New World
DESCRIPTION:San Luis Obispo Museum of Art and The History Center of San Luis Obispo County are pleased to present an evocative glimpse of San Luis Obispo on the brink of the 20th century. Cen Dallidet: At the Edge of a New World is on exhibit from September 2 through October 2\, 2016. \nMaria Ascension “Cen” Dallidet (1859-1913) was a Franco-Californio artist. A native San Luis Obispan\, she was the eldest daughter of pioneering Central Coast vintner Pierre Dallidet and Ascencion Concepcion Salazar. Because the Dallidet’s adobe home was preserved intact\, complete with family belongings\, a significant body of Dallidet’s work survives locally\, thanks to the preservation efforts of the History Center of San Luis Obispo County. The art shows her development from the vernacular to a sophisticated artistic vision informed by contemporary international movements of Impressionism and Post-Impressionism.

With dozens of galleries and non-traditional exhibit spaces\, it’s SLO’s favorite night of the month to celebrate art for free!

Billed as “The Album Series: Drama + Topographic 1 & 4\,” the tour will feature the 1980 album DRAMA performed in its entirety\, for the first time ever\, and sides one and four of 1973’s double album TALES FROM TOPOGRAPHIC OCEANS\, plus a selection of their greatest hits. \n“We are proud to present the American public with forward-looking albums from the past\,” says guitarist Steve Howe of the iconic and influential band. “Promoting ‘Drama’ at Madison Square Garden on multi-nights was a career milestone in 1980\, and we are especially looking forward to performing both the opening and closing sides to ‘Topographic Oceans.’” Adds keyboardist Geoff Downes: “One minute\, Trevor Horn and I were in The Buggles\, the next we joined Yes\, then we were in Madison Square Garden playing ‘Drama.’” Expresses drummer Alan White: “We really hit the ground running with ‘Topographic Oceans\,’ my first recorded album with Yes.
