DESCRIPTION:A memorial exhibit\, bearing the names of the more than 58\,000 men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice in Vietnam\, is returning to San Luis Obispo for the first time in 21 years for just four days this spring.\nThe County of San Luis Obispo Veterans Services Office will host The Wall That Heals\, a scaled replica of the Vietnam Veterans Memorial\, in San Luis Obispo from March 29 to April 1 at the Madonna Meadows.\n“We are honored to have been chosen to host The Wall That Heals\,” said Veterans Service Officer Christopher Lopez. “Most Vietnam veterans never received a ‘welcome home’. We hope that this will be a healing experience for our local Vietnam veterans\, their families\, and for our entire community. It is an opportunity to honor those who have served or are serving in our nation’s military while educating a new generation about how the conflict in Vietnam impacted our community.”\nThe exhibit will be open 24 hours a day\, free to the public\, between 12 a.m. on March 29 and 2 p.m. on April 1. This project is funded by public donations and the site was donated by Madonna Inn free of charge.\nThe Wall That Heals is provided by the Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund\, the non-profit organization that founded the Vietnam Veterans Memorial in Washington\, DC. The County of San Luis Obispo Veterans Services Office applied to host The Wall That Heals in May 2017 and was one of 38 applicants approved to host the exhibit from a pool of over 100 applications. The exhibit consists of the replica Memorial\, mobile Education Center\, and information tent. There will be a new activity each day. \nEvent Schedule\nMarch 29\n9 a.m.\nGuided tours for local schools. The Vietnam Veterans Memorial Fund has lesson plans and a trained guide. Field trips end at 3 p.m. \nMarch 29\n5 p.m.\nWelcome Home’ (opening) ceremony. Ceremony includes posting of the colors and community speakers. \nMarch 30\n7 p.m.\nCandlelight vigil. Activity is conducted by the Vietnam Veterans of America Guadalupe chapter #982. Candles will be provided. \nMarch 31\n11 a.m.\n2018 Veterans’ Stand Down. Community service providers will be available to provide information about services and benefits available to veterans. Activity ends at 3 p.m. \nApril 1\n1:30 p.m.\nClosing ceremony. Ceremony includes the playing of Taps.

SUMMARY:Cal Poly's Annual Tomato Mania Plant Sale!
DESCRIPTION:More than 70 varieties of tomato plants will be available at Cal Poly’s annual Tomato Mania plant sale from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and Sunday\, April 7 and 8\, at the Horticulture Unit near the Poly Plant Shop. \nBrandywine\, Early Girl\, Beefsteak\, Homestead\, Abe Lincoln Improved and a selection of cherry tomato plants\, including Bumble Bee Surprise\, are some of the unique cultivars that will be available during the student-run enterprise project\, one of several such hands-on courses offered by the university’s College of Agriculture\, Food and Environmental Sciences. \nThe plants cost $7\, with a quantity discount given for five or more plants. \nThis year the program is directed by a team of six students who have grown nearly 5\,000 tomato plants from seed to provide home gardeners with quality plants that will produce fresh tomatoes throughout summer. Students began seeding the plants in early February and have tended to them in the campus greenhouses. \n“Tomato Mania is a perfect example of what makes Cal Poly great\,” said Gage Willey\, a senior agricultural and environmental plant sciences major. “This project throws a team of six students into a business — one that the community expects and relies on every year. That motivating pressure puts things into perspective and creates a real education.” \nThe sale will take place at the Environmental Horticultural Sciences Building (No. 48) on Via Carta Road off Highland Drive. The San Luis Obispo Veterans Services Collaborative is hosting the fair\, which will bring representatives from various local agencies onto campus \nThe goal is to provide local veterans with information on services and resources in a fun atmosphere where the entire family feels comfortable. Veterans who attend can get help securing their potential benefits\, attend resume-writing workshops\, learn job interviewing skills and financial planning strategies\, obtain information on their legal rights as veterans\, more than 20 employers and offer direct contact to the Veterans Affairs healthcare system in order to address VA benefits\, questions about healthcare\, and best practices.
