SUMMARY:SLO Brew Comedy Series
DESCRIPTION:  \nJoin us for our hilarious summer installments of the SLO Brew Comedy Series featuring a night stand-up from comedians on August 5th and September 2nd. \nDoors 7 PM | Ages 18+ | Tickets $10 ADV at slobrew.com and Boo Boo Records \n  \n——— \n  \nHeadliner: Barry Neal \n  \nFeature: Debbie Praver \n  \nOpener: Suzy Nece \n  \n— \n  \nAbout Barry Neal: Barry’s beginnings were unusual. After graduating from Northwestern University and completing a successful run in the famous Mee-Ow show (who’s celebrity members have included Julia Louis Dreyfus\, Dermot Mulroney\, George Newborn\, Craig Bierko\, Seth Meyers\, and Ana Gasteyer)\, his brother dared him to go onstage at an open mic to do a routine. Barry was hit that night\, and knew that stand-up comedy was his next mountain to climb. \n  \nBarry learned from the best comedians in the country. Jerry Seinfeld was a regular. He watched people like Bill Maher\, Ellen Degeneres\, Paul Reiser\, and Tim Allen just to name a few. Barry learned by not only watching these comics but by being a good listener when these comics would talk comedy. \n  \nBarry’s style is clean\, high energy\, and relationship material was a hit in almost every market. He quickly moved up the comedy ladder and was on cable and network tv\, from MTV\, NBC\, Comedy Central\, and VH-1. Barry’s act was noticed by a production company that loved his Counselor of Love persona\, and his act is currently being shopped as a sitcom called The Counselor of Love that Barry wrote along with his partner Dan Patterson\, who was creator and executive producer of Who’s Line Is It Anyway? \n  \nAbout Debbie Praver: Debbie Praver lives in Los Angeles but is always more at home in New York City because in Manhattan people are ready to order when they get to the front of the line. Her impatience combined with her sarcastic wit made stand up comedy her only career option. She was an invited guest performer at the Las Vegas Comedy Festival\, has shared the stage with Kathy Griffin in Dennis Hensley’s “Screening Party” and performs regularly at the Improv\, the comedy store\, and the Friars Club. \nDebbie honed her writing skills with Desperate Housewives Creator Marc Cherry and Desperate Housewives Co-executive Producers Joey Murphy and John Pardee. The refinement of her stand up act happened as she studied with the fabulously talented yet brutally honest Mark Lonow . \nShe has been published in Los Angeles’ Atomica magazine\, is a fill in sidekick for Dennis Hensley on his Sirius Out Q radio show and makes appearances on paper in Dennis Hensley’s “Misadventures in the 213” and Del Shore’s novel “Sordid Lives .” \n  \nAbout Suzy Nece: Suzy Nece has done time in New York\, San Francisco and Los Angeles. Her television credits include The Jamie Kennedy Experiment\, Jimmy Kimmel Live\, Yes\, Dear\, Nash Bridges\, National Lampoon’s Crash\, and probably a Girls Gone Wild or two (it’s all a blur). Born is a small village in Virginia\, Nece left the trailer and went on to frighten children and stand up audiences at the Hollywood Improv\, The Friar’s Club and the Comedy Store\, to name a few. Suzy is a member of EntertainmentMax clean comedy division.

SUMMARY:SLO Brew Presents: Blind Melon
DESCRIPTION:Live at SLO Brew: Blind Melon  \nSeptember 5th\, 2018 | Doors 8 PM | Ages 18+ \nTickets available at slobrew.com and Boo Boo Records \nAbout Blind Melon: In recent years\, the tale of Blind Melon has taken a dramatic turn – from an abrupt and tragic end\, to a rebirth and reconnection with their legions of dedicated fans. No matter how you slice it\, the group was responsible for some of the most memorable and pure- sounding rock music of the ‘90s\, and with their reformation in 2007 with singer Travis Warren\, Blind Melon have picked up with their fans\, exactly where they left off. Blind Melon originally formed in 1990 in Los Angeles\, California\, when five transplants from other states crossed paths – singer Shannon Hoon (from Indiana)\, guitarist Christopher Thorn (from Pennsylvania)\, and guitarist Rogers Stevens\, bassist Brad Smith\, and drummer Glen Graham (all from Mississippi). . The group’s now-classic self-titled debut followed in 1992. The album saw the group fit in perfectly with the then-burgeoning alt rock/grunge movement\, due to their stripped-down\, rootsy sound\, as evidenced by such standouts as “Tones of Home” and “Change.” But it was the song “No Rain” that became a smash on radio and MTV a year later\, and Blind Melon became one of rock’s feel-good ‘overnight success stories.’ As the album scaled the charts\, plum opening gigs piled up over the next year – Guns N’ Roses\, Neil Young\, Lenny Kravitz\, and the Rolling Stones\, as well as an unforgettable appearance at Woodstock ’94.  Barely over two months after the album’s release\, Hoon died while on tour from a drug overdose\, at the age of 28. The four surviving members regrouped and issued an outtakes collection\, 1996’s ‘Nico’ (named after Hoon’s then- baby daughter\, and spawning such further Melon classics as “Soup” and “Soul One”)\, as well as the Grammy nominated home video\, ‘Letters from a Porcupine.’ An attempt to find a replacement for Hoon was abandoned\, and in 1999\, the group officially went their separate ways. \nDuring these intervening years\, interest in Blind Melon continued to grow further\, due to the emergence of the jam band scene – which many feel the group helped create .Add to it an ever-growing Blind Melon online community of fans\, and it was clear that there was still an unmistakable demand for the band. It was precisely around this time that Smith and Thorn were asked to produce a few tracks for Texas- based singer/songwriter\, Warren – who also happened to be a die-hard Blind Melon fan. Working with Warren on his demo\, Smith jokingly said to Thorn that Warren “could sing Blind Melon songs in his sleep.” Soon after\, it had become apparent that they had finally located Blind Melon’s new singer. With Stevens and Graham reclaiming their spots as well\, Blind Melon was back in business. \nBlind Melon has again returned to the stage playing cities all over the globe including North America\, South America\, Europe\, Asia and more. The band continues to play a handful of special shows each year\, such as their show at SLO Brew\, looking forward to what the future will bring. \n
