SUMMARY:Steel Magnolia's at the Great American Melodrama
DESCRIPTION:One of the country’s most popular plays is set to premier at the Great American Melodrama in Oceano: Robert Harling’s Steel Magnolias. This charming comedy about the bonds of friendship spawned the popular Oscar-nominated film version and follows the same story. “It’s a delightful play to open our season with. It’s so funny\, so well-written\, and the best actors wanted to work on the project\,” said Melodrama Artistic Director Dan Schultz. \nSet in Louisiana in the 1980’s\, Steel Magnolias is the tale of six Southern women who gather under the hair dryers of their local salon to gossip\, laugh\, and share stories and insults. Full of big characters\, big hair\, and big laughs\, the events turn serious when the group shares a tragic loss. You’ll fall in love with these women who are “delicate as magnolias but as tough as steel.” Directed by Robyne Parrish\, and featuring Suzy Newman (M’Lynn)\, Patty Thayer (Clairee)\, Katie Worley Beck (Annelle)\, Eleise Moore (Truvy)\, Bonner Church (Ouiser) and Rebecca Tucker (Shelby)\, the show is sure to delight audiences from across the Central Coast. \nFollowing each performance of Steel Magnolias is the brand new vaudeville revue\, The Queens of Comedy. It’s a hilarious tribute to your favorite comediennes from the last 100 years. Featuring song\, dance\, and comedy\, the Queens of Comedy is a perfect capper to an evening of incredible live theatre. It’s directed by Sarah Wussow and features choreography by Katie Fuchs Wackowski. \nThese shows play January 24 – March 10. Performances are Thursday and Fridays at 7 pm\, Saturdays at 3 and 7 pm\, and Sundays at 6 pm. The Melodrama’s in-house snack bar features great food and drinks served before the show and during intermissions. Tickets are $23 to $30\, with discounts available for groups\, seniors\, students\, active military\, and children. For more information and to purchase tickets\, call the Melodrama Box Office\, at 805-489-2499\, or visit www.americanmelodrama.com. The Great American Melodrama is located on Highway 1 in Oceano\, just three miles south of Pismo Beach. Come see they’re brand new box office building across from the theatre\, you can’t miss it.  The Melodrama has been providing professional family entertainment on the Central Coast since 1975.

The concert is ideal for ages 3+ and child/student tickets are priced at 50% off. \n  \nBoth artists are singers and musicians\, performing on guitar\, mandolin\, harmonica\, flute\, trombone\, and percussion. \n  \nThe show will be highly interactive: the audience will be invited to sing along in what might be called a casual – and subversively educational – party atmosphere. The music\, based in a variety of folk traditions\, is homespun\, sophisticated\, and artful. \n  \nEliaza’s background as a board-certified Music Therapist gives the entertaining duo additional ways to find meaningful connections with their art and audiences. \n  \nStudent and Adult tickets: $18 & $36 respectively

SUMMARY:Young Adult Grief Group offered by Hospice SLO County
DESCRIPTION:Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (Hospice SLO County) is offering a Young Adult Grief Group beginning on Wednesday\, February 6\, 2019. This support group is for young adults (ages approximately 18-26) who have experienced the death of a loved one. It will meet on Wednesdays from 3 – 4 pm at Hospice SLO County\, 1304 Pacific Street\, San Luis Obispo.\nFor many young adults\, losing a loved one is an isolating experience. It can be difficult for young people to meet others in their age group who have experienced a death in their lives. This support group provide a space for young adults to talk about grief. \n“It can be challenging to find peer support when you’re young\,” said Emily Erskin\, one of the facilitators for the support group. “We’ve heard from young people who say they feel out of place when they attend support groups because the majority of participants are older than them. It’s hard to be the youngest person in the room.”\n“So many young adults are looking for a space to connect with their peers\,” said co-facilitator\, Jennifer Reimer. “It’s important for young people to know that they are not alone and that there are others who have experienced loss at their age. The group will focus on grief reactions\, healthy coping skills and sharing loss experiences.” \nAll of Hospice SLO County’s support groups are offered free of charge. Groups are led by volunteers trained in facilitation and grief counseling. The offering of groups changes to match current community needs\, but currently offered drop-in groups are:\n Child Loss Support Group\n Caregiver Support Group\n General Grief Support Group\n Pet Loss Support Group\n Spouse and Partner Support Group\n Suicide Bereavement Support Group\n Young Adult Grief Support Group \n  \n  \nThose interested in joining a support group can visit hospiceslo.org/support-groups and find a list of available groups\, along with the days and times they meet. Drop-ins are welcome. For more information\, please call Hospice SLO County at (805) 544-2266.\n### Hospice of San Luis Obispo County (Hospice SLO County)\, a local\, 501(c) 3 non-profit\, volunteer\, non-medical hospice\, has been providing county-wide in-home respite care\, emotional support\, practical assistance\, and comfort to individuals who are experiencing the impact of a life-limiting illness since 1977.
