SUMMARY:SLOMA Presents: Re-purposed Fashion with Christine Mayer
DESCRIPTION:Saturday\, June 1 at 2 PM\n\n\n\nJoin SLOMA for a textile-focused ARTalk and demonstration with artist and designer Christine Mayer. \nBerlin-based fashion designer Christine Mayer has built a fashion career on re-purposing clothing and breathing new life into old garments. She is a pioneer of three-dimensional free draping with fabric\, an art form she has adapted and developed from her studies in classical Japanese drapery. With her label MAYER.Peace Collection\, she became a worldwide renowned name for fashion that bridges the gaps between art and fashion. \nWhen it comes to clothing design\, Christine’s style is recognizable for its collage aesthetics; where pattern and fabric constantly interrupt each other’s spaces. Material that has been “marked by life” is one of Christine’s biggest inspirations. \nSaturday\, June 1\, 2019 at 2 PM. \nSLOMA ARTalks give visitors the opportunity to gain a deeper understanding of contemporary visual art through discussions with the artists themselves. All ARTalks are free and open to the public

SUMMARY:Fremont Theater Presents: Fidlar
DESCRIPTION:FIDLAR\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nSaturday\, Jun 01\, 2019\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nWith: Tropa Magica\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\n\nDESCRIPTION\nFIDLAR will be live in downtown SLO on Saturday\, June 1! \nTickets On-Sale NOW. \n♦ SHOW INFORMATION ♦ \nDoor Time- 8:00 PM\nShow Time- 9:00 PM\nAll Ages \n♦ TICKET OUTLET ♦ \nBoo Boo Records\n978 Monterey St • SLO\nMon-Wed 10-8\, Thurs-Sat 10-9\, Sun 11-6 \n♦ BAND INFORMATION ♦ \nFIDLAR’s third album\, Almost Free\, which will be released on January 25\, 2019\, bears a raw vitality that FIDLAR partly attributes to a certain lightning-in-a-bottle element in its construction. While the album was recorded in several different locations — including the iconic Sunset Sound and Sonic Ranch\, a studio in the Texas border town of Tornillo — much of the material came straight from homemade demos. “On the last record we took the demos and re-recorded everything in the studio\, but this process was more like how we worked in the beginning\,” says Elvis. “I feel like it got us back to that original feeling we had when we first started making music together\, instead of just pushing everything out on a deadline.” \nFIDLAR’s origins trace back to 2009\, when Elvis (whose dad played in the legendary punk band T.S.O.L.\, and who joined his own first punk band at age 13) landed an internship at a recording studio where Zac worked as an engineer\, and the two started jamming in the off-hours. “I remember one day we went out to get a Little Caesar’s pizza and Elvis put on Songs for the Deaf by Queens of the Stone Age and I was like\, ‘I love this record\,’” Zac recalls. “That was the moment when it just connected for me: ‘We’re gonna be in a band together.’” With Brandon and Elvis’s kid brother and lifelong bandmate Max brought into the fold\, the four musicians felt an immediate chemistry but had no real direction. “There wasn’t any kind of plan to become a working band\,” says Elvis. “We just all really wanted to make loud rock & roll music.” \nThroughout Almost Free\, FIDLAR match their stronger sense of purpose with the ineffable magic that’s always driven them — most notably\, that pure and palpable love of playing together. “We were so young when this started\, we were just partying and being kids\, and FIDLAR took on a life of its own\,” says Zac. “I really thought I was going to be working on other people’s music for the rest of my life\, and that would be it. In my wildest imagination I never would’ve thought that this all would’ve worked out the way it did — but that’s how life happens in general. That’s the classic story.”

SUMMARY:Cal Poly Choirs to Present ‘For the Beauty of the Earth’ Concert
DESCRIPTION:The Cal Poly Choirs will come together to present a concert titled “For the Beauty of the Earth\,” at 3 p.m. Sunday\, June 2\, in the Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center. \nThe concert will consist of works about — and inspired by — the natural world. \nThe first half will feature the Chamber Choir and University Singers. \nIt will include works by Charles Stanford\, Claudio Monteverdi\, Pyotr Il’yich Tchaikovsky\, Johann Sebastian Bach\, Imant Raminsh and others. Cellist Elizabeth Tseng\, a biological sciences major\, will be featured on Bach’s “Dona Nobis Pacem” and Raminsh’s “In the Night We Shall Go In.” The University Singers will perform Tchaikovsky’s “A Golden Cloud Slept\,” a rarely performed work that uses natural world objects as metaphors for human relationships. \nThe remainder of the concert will feature the Advanced Women’s Chorus and PolyPhonics. \nThe two choirs will perform works by Stephen Chatman\, Eric Barnum\, Béla Bartók and even The Beatles. Chatman’s “An Elizabethan Spring” uses 17th-century texts that depict aspects of springtime. Cal Poly voice teacher Amy Goymerac will be the soprano soloist on “Les sirenès” (“The Mermaids”)\, a 1911 work by French composer Lily Boulanger. \nThe concert is the capstone of a very busy spring quarter for Cal Poly’s choral program. \nIn March\, PolyPhonics toured the Bay Area\, which included a performance at the Cathedral of St. Mary of the Assumption\, and another on May 26 when the choir sang the national anthem at the San Francisco Giants-Oakland A’s game at Oracle Park. On May 25\, 34 students representing all of Cal Poly’s choirs performed at Carnegie Hall in New York City. \nDirector of Choral Activities Scott Glysson will conduct the June concert. The choirs will be accompanied by Paul Woodring\, staff accompanist and university organist. \nThere will be a post-concert retirement reception honoring Jacalyn Kreitzer in the PAC’s Grand Lobby. Kreitzer has taught voice at Cal Poly for nearly 25 years. A renowned opera singer\, she founded the Student Opera Theatre program and directed 15 of its productions. She received the College of Liberal Arts Outstanding Lecturer award in 2002\, and in 2015 she was honored for outstanding achievement in the performing arts by ARTS Obispo. \nTickets to the concert are $12 or $14 for the public\, and $9 or $12 for students. Event parking is sponsored by the PAC. Tickets are sold at the Cal Poly Ticket Office between noon and 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday. To order by phone\, call 805-SLO-4TIX (805-756-4849). \nThe concert is sponsored by Cal Poly’s Music Department\, College of Liberal Arts and Instructionally Related Activities program. For more information\, call the Music Department at 805-756-2406 or visit its calendar website. \nPhoto information: Choirs.jpg — The combined Cal Poly Choirs perform during the 2018 Spring Concert on campus. \n  \nLinks \n— Performing Arts Center’s Christopher Cohan Center: maps.calpoly.edu/place/bldg-006-0/ \n— Cal Poly Ticket Office: tickets.calpoly.edu \n— Cal Poly Music Department Calendar: music.calpoly.edu/calendar/

He states about his oversized paintings\, “Flower blossoms have been the promise before the fruit. It is nature’s way of announcing its unfolding power to create and to deliver future nourishment … flowers have done so for thousands of years. The diversity and large amounts of blossoms fill and overflow the formal ground to the max\, producing heighten feelings of positive human emotions of plenitude and abundance.” \nImmerse yourself in these splendid paintings at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden. All pieces are for sale\, and proceeds benefit the Garden. \nJuan Manuel Perez Salazar resides on the central coast\, where he is an avid artist and gardener. His work has been displayed in\, Mexico\, India\, and throughout California. His studio practice explores boundaries of painting and sculpture\, crossing and transposing various modes of styles in search of his own images. The experiential and cultural associations of specific subjects and materials fuels his exploration. Inspired by the symbolism and beauty of the natural world\, he utilizes blossoms to seduce the observer to take pleasure in watching flowers bloom. Inspired to compose what he gather with his senses in the garden; he often cuts his own flowers to serve as models. \nView more artist work at @JuanManuelPerezSalazar
