This session focuses on Hospitality and Retention. \nCharles Babinski has spent the last 16 years in the coffee industry. He started as a barista in New York before making his way to Intelligentsia in Chicago\, where he spent his time developing and executing a training program for some of the company’s best performing stores. This role brought him to Los Angeles in 2010. In 2012 along with his business partner\, Kyle Glanville\, he opened up the original G&B pop-up at Sqirl in Virgil Village. The following year G&B opened its permanent location in downtown LA’s Grand Central Market\, home of the Best Latte in the US\, according to the New York Times. This move coincided with the opening of Glanville and Babinski’s other café concept\, Go Get Em Tiger in Larchmont. Seven years and seven stores later\, Charles’s focus has moved beyond the bar to developing GGET’s coffee sourcing\, roasting and training. With the expansion of GGET throughout Los Angeles\, Charles is excited to help establish a standard of coffee preparation and customer service that is unmatched in the industry. Charles is also the 2015 US Barista Champion and the runner up in the 2015 World Barista Championships. \nLearn from Charles about his journey and how he has scaled his business while maintaining a down-to-earth attitude and grown a team. \nMcCall Stone is the retail store supervisor of the Downtown SLO business\, The Sock Drawer\, now one of the largest online sock companies in the world\, which offers thousands of styles to choose from. SUMMARY:San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden Presents: Native Plant Propagation Workshop With Rodney Thurman
DESCRIPTION:Want to learn how to grow your own California Native plants? Join arborist and native plant grower\, Rodney Thurman\, to learn how to grow native plants from cuttings\, and how to treat seeds to get better growth rates. Native plants can be notoriously tricky to propagate at home\, so learn from a skilled professional. Join us at the San Luis Obispo Botanical Garden on Saturday\, January 11 from 1 PM to 2:30 PM to get some hands-on experience propagating several native plant species. Come with questions.\nWorkshop is followed at 2:30PM by a free docent-led tour of the SLO Botanical Garden. \nContact education@slobg.org for information.\nSuggested donation $5 for members/$10 non-members.\nNo pre-registry required. \nEver since Rodney Thurman can remember\, he has been interested in plants and how they grow. Beginning in 1989\, after his time as a U.S. Marine\, Rodney began working his way through college in the retail and wholesale nursery business. In 1994 he was introduced to native plant propagation and restoration while in a work-study position in Olympia\, Washington. After graduating college\, Rodney did contract work for the Washington State University Cooperative Extension\, helping to build native-plant\, educational gardens and teaching ethnobotany classes.  Rodney became a certified arborist in 2002. In 2011 Rodney worked as Director of Propagation for Greenheart Farms\, a large wholesale nursery in Arroyo Grande\, California. In 2018 Rodney ventured out on his own and started Heritage Tree Arboricultural Consulting where he works with landowners\, developers and individuals to help protect their trees and give advice on landscape health. Rodney recently returned to Greenheart Farms where he works part time as the Restoration Department Coordinator.
