SUMMARY:SLO REP Presents\, Always... Patsy Cline
DESCRIPTION:Show Times\nFebruary 7 – March 8\, 2020\nWed-Sun @ 7 pm\nSat & Sun @ 2 pm\nBased on a true story. \nAlways…Patsy Cline is a delightful musical about friendship\, country music and a brilliant artist who left us all too soon. More than a tribute to the legendary country singer who died tragically at age 30 in a plane crash in 1963\, Always…Patsy Cline is a true story about Cline’s friendship with a fan from Houston named Louise Seger\, who befriended the star in a Texas honky-tonk in 1961\, and continued a correspondence with Cline until her death. \nThe musical play\, complete with down home country humor\, poignant tales of life on the road and even some audience participation\, includes many of Patsy’s unforgettable hits such as Crazy\, I Fall to Pieces\, Sweet Dreams and Walking After Midnight — 27 songs in all!  The show’s title was inspired by Cline’s letters to Seger\, which were consistently signed “Love ALWAYS… Patsy Cline.” \nCreated and originally directed by Ted Swindley\nDirected by Kevin Harris\nMusical Direction by Wendy Feaver\nScenic Design by David Linfield

SUMMARY:Mark Bryan: Fake News at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:Mark Bryan\, Las Meninas\, 2019\, oil on canvas \n  \nFrom February 28 to April 26\, 2020\, the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art will be hosting the exhibition Fake News by Central Coast artist Mark Bryan. This exhibition features Bryan’s well-known political satire and pop-surrealism paintings. \n  \nRaised during the turmoil of the 1950s and 60s\, Bryan is notably influenced by the pop-culture and political dissent that defined those decades. The influences of cheesy Sci-Fi and horror movies\, comic books\, and Salvador Dalí are informed by his coming-of-age experiences during the violence of the Vietnam War\, the Red Scare\, and the Civil Rights Movement. Many of Bryan’s references go much deeper though\, and require a keen eye. Bryan combines art historical references with contemporary topics\, and adds in a healthy dose of humor. One such painting is the reinterpretation of Arnold Bröklin’s Isle of the Dead. In Bryan’s version\, the desolate island is filled with fun-loving skeletons diving off rocks into the water\, paddle-boarding\, and tight roping. Another such painting is Las Meninas\, a reinterpretation Diego Velázquez’s famous painting in the Museo Nacional del Prado in Madrid\, Spain. Bryan’s version replaces Velázquez’s cleverly placed self-portrait with his own “big baby” self-portrait\, which is featured in numerous other paintings. Instead of the studio floor\, the Infanta and ladies-in-waiting are engulfed in a stormy sea\, in which a menacing serpent-like creature cuts through the waves. The painting has been updated to a surrealistic scene\, but one that still turns the attention back onto the viewer as the subject matter\, something many of Bryan’s paintings do. Viewers are often confronted with familiar imagery and behaviors in his artworks. From tabloid news stories\, to modern technology\, to the climate crisis\, Bryan’s work is truly a product of our times. \n  \nIn his political work\, Bryan doesn’t make one statement and move along. He beats a steady drum and stands with firm ground in a political environment that benefits from short attention spans. He frequently revisits stories and motifs\, creating connections and repetition between all his paintings. His work has the unique ability to make viewers gasp\, think\, and chuckle. Originally noticed for his critical paintings of the Bush Administration\, Fake News features newer paintings of Bryan’s that turn the lens on the behavior of Donald Trump. This series of paintings is featured alongside his works of pop-surrealism and religious satire. Although politically charged\, they are undoubtedly outstanding works of art\, regardless of one’s political affiliation. Visitors are welcome to explore these paintings\, see what they can discover\, and perhaps be challenged along the way. \n  \nSLOMA will be hosting an opening reception for the exhibition on March 6 from 6 to 9 PM\, in conjunction with Art After Dark. This event is free and light refreshments will be served. Visitors who also wish to hear Bryan speak in more detail about his influences and technique are invited to attend an ARTalk on March 5 at 12 PM. \n  \nThe San Luis Obispo Museum of Art\, dedicated to the education\, presentation and preservation of the visual arts of California’s Central Coast\, is located at 1010 Broad Street\, on the west end of Mission Plaza. Hours are 11 AM–5 PM. Closed Tuesdays & Wednesdays. Free admission\, donations appreciated. For more info\, visit SLOMA.org.

SUMMARY:A High-Impact Business Branding Workshop for CEOs\, Business Leaders\, and Start Ups on the Central Coast brought to you by the team at EMPATH.
DESCRIPTION:EMPATH hosts second Brand Building workshop in San Luis Obispo \n\n  \n\n EMPATH brings in speakers to teach attendees how to build their brand\, grow their business\, and gain deeper understanding of their customers \n\n  \n\nThe no cost workshop will be hosted at the beautiful Hotel San Luis Obispo in their main event hall — Seven Sisters Ballroom \n\n  \nThe marketing world is rich in data\, analytics\, and technology. But to earn lasting benefits of that wealth of information\, you need something entirely human—that rare and sometimes illusory quality called empathy. Applied empathy can help every company\, brand\, and business turn insights about your customer’s mindset into highly effective creative that will transform your brand and your bottom line. In this month’s meetup\, we’ve invited experts in brand design who have worked with Fortune 500 behemoths like Apple\, Microsoft\, and Disney\, and hundreds of local startups\, to present how brand extends beyond visual identity and into aspects of a company’s values and vision. \nPlease join us on Wednesday\, March 4th to learn about the evolution of brand over the last decade as our speakers explain why and how companies should invest in their brand experience. SUMMARY:MOE. at the Fremont
DESCRIPTION:MOE. will be live in downtown SLO at the Fremont Theater on Wednesday\, March 4! \nTickets On-Sale Friday\, November 8 at 10 AM! \n♦ SHOW INFORMATION ♦ \nDoor Time- 8:00 PM\nAll Ages \n♦ TICKET OUTLET ♦ \nBoo Boo Records\n978 Monterey St • SLO\nMon-Wed 10-8\, Thurs-Sat 10-9\, Sun 11-6 \n♦ BAND INFORMATION ♦ \nmoe. is the preeminent progressive rock band on the music scene today. With 20 years of touring and just as many albums under its belt\, the quintet of Al Schnier and Chuck Garvey on guitars and vocals\, Rob Derhak on bass and vocals\, Jim Loughlin on percussion and vibes\, and Vinnie Amico on Drums\, continues to push the standard for performance art. \nCritical acclaim and a solid national and international fan base has built a dedicated following that grows each year. Whether touring across the globe\, headlining music festivals\, or sharing the stage with such celebrated acts as the Allmans\, The Who\, or Robert Plant\, among others\, what keeps moe. at the forefront of the music scene is not only the energy and vitality of their music and songwriting\, but the showmanship in which it is delivered. \nFrom its humble\, inconspicuous beginnings as a local bar band in Buffalo in the late 1980s\, to headlining Radio City Music Hall two years straight on New Year’s Eve\, moe.’s journey has been one of hard work\, perseverance\, and dedication. Their music is clever\, melodic\, refined; their performances are entertaining\, mesmerizing and epic. There’s a reason that Rolling Stone magazine placed Chuck and Al among the top twenty new “guitar gods\,” why the pair were featured in Guitar World and Modern Guitar; why Jim and Vinnie have been featured in Drum! magazine; why Rob in Bass Player and State of Mind magazines — all in the same year — because they’re that good! Critically acclaimed for its songwriting and studio work\, the group’s 2001 studio album\, DITHER\, was awarded four stars by Rolling Stone. 2003’s WORMWOOD received four stars by Blender Magazine. Their two latest efforts\, THE CONCH and STICKS & STONES\, received rave reviews including Rolling Stone\, Paste\, and Blender magazine. In honor of their 20th Anniversary\, the band released SMASH HITS\, VOLUME 1. Billed as a “Young Person’s Guide to moe.\,” the album features band and fan favorites — some recast in new recordings that showcase the band’s ongoing evolution. “It’s what we and others perceive as our strongest crowd pleasers of the past twenty years\,” Rob muses. “It’s a compilation that you can listen to over and over again. Something your mother might enjoy.” \nThe band continues to tour extensively: from San Fran to Amsterdam\, from Tokyo to Toronto\, from Chi Town to Bean Town\, from Austin to Atlanta\, playing and packing venues large and small\, or intimate and grand. Long a featured act at music festivals\, they have performed at Lollapalooza\, Bonnaroo\, Langerado\, and Vegoose\, to name a few; yet made time to promote and perform at their own festivals — Summer Camp\, Snoe.down\, and moe.down. \nmoe. was recently inducted into the Buffalo Music Hall of Fame\, being recognized not only for the impact they have made in their hometown\, but for their charitable work on a national and international level as well. The band hosted a Tsunami Benefit concert at the Roseland Ballroom in New York City on February 10\, 2005 and raised $150\,000 for Tsunami survivors. The concert earned moe. its second Live Performance of the Year Jammy Award. moe. also raised over $100\,000 for various charities\, including the Red Cross for Hurricane Katrina survivors and for the music department at Bradley Elementary in Utica\, NY\, to help keep music in children’s lives. \nmoe. kicked off their 20th anniversary in style\, hosting a two-night stand in New York City at Roseland Ballroom\, which included a special benefit concert for WHY (World Hunger Year) http://www.whyhunger.org/. Throughout 2010\, moe. continued to bring awareness to World Hunger and other issues\, working with Headcount\, Freedom for Burma\, and many other charities. \nBy all accounts\, for this “legendary jam band\,” as Rolling Stone magazine recently described them\, it would be best to keep your eyes on this band and your ears tuned in to their music. Witness history in the making. This is welcome news for the moe. faithful and the band’s ever-expanding fan base. Yet — even better news for the world of rock and roll — moe. has finally come into their own.

SUMMARY:Artisan Wheelhouse Launch Party
DESCRIPTION:The Artisan Wheelhouse\, is an innovative cheese manufacturing company launching cheeses that has modernized old-world style cheese making. They hand-craft cheeses that are so delicious they fool almost everyone into believing they could not be made from plants.Their cheeses are delicious. Made with no oils. Never thought coming from Wisconsin we would ever recommend a non dairy cheese. But they have surely changed our thinking.’ says a customer review.    And in fact\, the taste and texture was so appealing to the general public that they sold out of half of their flavors when they debuted them at SLO Vegfest and the Paso Robles Home Garden & Gourmet Food Expo events over the last two weekends. One of the most common questions at the events was “How can this taste like real cheese and not be made with dairy?” Chef  Alex Rodriguez\, Executive Director and Co-Founder answers that by saying ‘As a chef\, since becoming vegan over 6 years ago\, it has always bothered me how difficult it was to find a dairy-free cheese that met the taste and ingredient quality standards I desired\, so I decided to make it. We spent two years creating the proper facilities and cheese cave\, and meticulously testing recipes\, and we finally have products we are really proud to offer to the public. We are demonstrating quality cheese flavors come from the cultures and technique\, not the medium.’ Meet  the The Artisan Wheelhouse team at their launch party and try free samples of their old-world style cheeses this coming Thursday\, March 5th between 6-8pm at the Farmhouse Corner Market in SLO. RSVP to attend and reserve your passport for a free flight of delightful sample dishes\, and a chance to win a Cheese Lover’s Bundle. \nRegister now to attend the Launch Party\, as Flight Passports are Limited: \nhttps://www.facebook.com/events/766768963847972/ OR\nhttps://the-artisan-wheelhouse-launch.eventbrite.com \nVisit their website  for a special pre-launch sale and follow their social media channels to learn more about The Artisan Wheelhouse: \nWebsite: https://www.TheArtisanWheelhouse.com \nFacebook: https://www.facebook.com/TheArtisanWheelhouse \nInstagram: https://www.instagram.com/TheArtisanWheelhouse \nTwitter: https://twitter.com/EatVeganCheese \nAbout The Artisan Wheelhouse \nThe Artisan Wheelhouse is an innovative old-world style vegan cheese manufacturing company based in San Luis Obispo\, CA  specializes in traditionally-cultured cave-aged cheeses of the highest quality. SUMMARY:SLO REP Presents: Jared Freiburg – IN CONCERT
DESCRIPTION:G \nJared Freiburg – IN CONCERT\nShow Times\nMarch 8 – March 10\, 2020\n Sunday\, Monday and Tuesday @ 7 pm \nAbout\nLast season’s production of MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET  was one of the most well-loved shows that ever hit the SLO REP stage. Raucous\, colorful\, energetic and danceable\, it broke every attendance record in our theatre’s history. \nOne of the big reasons:  Jared Freiburg! \nJared brought the house down nightly as the unstoppable\, irrepressible dynamo Jerry Lee Lewis. \nAnd if you liked his Jerry Lee\, you’re going to LOVE Jared Freiburg in concert. \nFor THREE NIGHTS ONLY Jared will perform at 888 Morro Street as a fundraiser for San Luis Obispo Repertory Theatre and Operation Surf\, in a concert featuring songs from his brand new album – VAGABOND  – and classics by Jerry Lee and other artists. \nABOUT JARED FREIBURG\nWhile others of his generation listened to pop music of their time\, Jared was exposed to artists and songs of the 50’s and 60’s\, setting him up for a dense musical pallet at a young age. Jared grew up in Des Moines\, Iowa\, and at the age of seven\, he began learning to play piano his grandmother’s knee. At 19\, he began portraying Jerry Lee Lewis in Million Dollar Quartet and since then has traveled the world playing and singing both Jerry Lee’s classic tunes and his own. Jared launched a Kickstarter campaign in early 2019 to fund his first album of original music. The campaign exceeded its goal and VAGABOND  was released in June 2019. \n
