SUMMARY:Blood Drive | sponsored by Dignity Health Central Coast
DESCRIPTION:After two successful blood drives at Arroyo Grande Community Hospital (AGCH)\, French Hospital Medical Center (FHMC)\, and Marian Regional Medical Center (MRMC)\, Dignity Health Central Coast hospitals have again partnered with Vitalant in a proactive effort to encourage community members to donate blood. In order to bolster local and national blood supplies\, Vitalant is calling on the community to come forward and give blood. The process takes only 45 minutes but can save up to three lives. \n  \nThe drive is scheduled for each hospital on the following dates: \nMarian Regional Medical Center – Tuesday\, July 7\, 2020\, 2-6pm at the conference center located at 1400 East Church Street\, Santa Maria at the corner of Palisades and Church Street \nArroyo Grande Community Hospital – Wednesday\, July 8\, 2020\, 9am – 2pm in the Annex Conference Room\, 345 South Halcyon Road\, Arroyo Grande \nFrench Hospital Medical Center – Thursday\, July 9\, 2020\, 9am – 2pm at the 3rd floor Copeland Health Education Pavilion at 1911 South Johnson Avenue\, San Luis Obispo \nThere is currently a critical shortage of blood\, and all community members are asked to take the short amount of time to donate. Community members wishing to donate are urged to sign up at www.blood4life.org. Do not donate if you are feeling ill. \nIn the wake of COVID-19 responses\, Vitalant is urging groups to continue organizing blood drives and individuals to continue donating blood\, unless local public health officials specifically direct otherwise. Blood drives at schools\, churches\, community groups\, and religious institutions – which represent more than 60% of the nation’s blood supply – have been all but cancelled\, and are critical to health care in our country. \nDespite the ongoing need\, it is now especially challenging to recruit donors\, which affects Vitalant’s blood supply. Donations from O-negative donors\, the universal blood type\, are especially important. The current O-negative blood supply sits at an approximate two-day supply\, which is half of the ideal quantity needed to support patient needs. Additionally\, platelet donations\, which have a shelf-life of only five days\, are always in high demand. However\, donors of all types are needed.

SUMMARY:WILDFIRE PREPAREDNESS WEBINAR presented by: San Luis Obispo Fire Department
DESCRIPTION:The City of San Luis Obispo Fire Department encourages community members to prepare now for wildfire and announced today that it is offering a virtual workshop to provide planning tools to community members. \nWildfires are now a year-round reality in San Luis Obispo\, but fire danger is more extreme during the summer months when vegetation becomes dry and the weather patterns change. The County has already seen both large and destructive wildfires this summer\, making time of the essence in getting prepared. \n“Firefighters train hard and make countless preparations to be ready for wildfire\, and residents need to do the same.” said San Luis Obispo Fire Department Chief Keith Aggson. “Successfully preparing for a wildfire requires you to take personal responsibility for protecting yourself\, your family and your property.” \nCommunity members can attend the webinar on July 15th at 6:00 PM to learn from the experts about the two most important steps in preparing for a wildfire: making your home resistant to wildfires and developing a ‘Ready-Set-Go’ action plan. \n\nTip #1: Create a Fire-resistant home through a defensible space and hardened home. This involves reducing ignitable materials around your property and installing protective features on your home such as metal wire mesh coverings on exterior attic vents.\nTip #2: Develop a Ready-Set-Go action plan to ensure you are prepared to leave early and safely in case evacuation is necessary.\n\nThe webinar will provide in-depth details and instructions on how to get prepared. Community members can register by going to www.slocity.org/wildfire or: \n\nRegistration URL: https://attendee.gotowebinar.com/register/2432288353692213008\nWebinar ID: 870-926-635\nTelephone Attendee: (562) 247-8321; Audio Access Code: 217-881-017\n\nThe San Luis Obispo City Fire Department encourages all community members to visit www.slocity.org/prepare for additional resources on emergency and disaster preparedness. Together\, we can Prepare SLO. \nTo receive updates from the City\, please register for City News e‐notifications on the City’s website at www.slocity.org or follow the City of San Luis Obispo on social media.

SUMMARY:Vina Robles Amphitheatre Presents: Steve Martin & Martin Short
DESCRIPTION:The Funniest Show in Town at the Moment \nSteve Martin & Martin Short\nPlus special guests Jeff Babko and The Steep Canyon Rangers \n8:00 PM / Doors Open @ 6:30 PM \nSteve Martin and Martin Short’s “The Funniest Show in Town at the Moment” is a show that redefines the form in unexpected and profound ways\, from two of the funniest\, most influential and acclaimed talents of the past century. The tour will make a stop at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre on Saturday\, July 18. \nTheir humor is often subversive\, but it is always a joyous self-deprecating romp from two comedy masters driven to make each other laugh as much as the audience. The jokes come at you at a rapid-fire pace with little set-up and big punch lines as they mock Hollywood and the fickle nature of celebrity\, but the comedy truly soars when they lovingly (and relentlessly) roast each other. \nMartin and Short’s chemistry and timing on stage reflects a friendship forged over three decades which developed when they met for the first time on the set of the 1986 film “Three Amigos.” These two titans of comedy have been touring together since 2015\, when they launched their first live show entitled “A Very Stupid Conversation.” \nThe Funniest Show in Town at the Moment follows Steve Martin and Martin Short’s celebrated sold-out tour An Evening You Will Forget for the Rest of Your Life. The show was filmed for a Netflix special that earned rave reviews and garnered four Emmy® nominations. Fueled by comedic precision and anchored in a lifelong friendship\, Rolling Stone called the special “wryly hip but unexpectedly touching\,” with the New York Times describing it “gleeful and satisfying.”
