SUMMARY:Atmospheres Deep Exhibition to Explore Humans Connection to the Ocean
DESCRIPTION:San Luis Obispo Museum of Art Reopens for Visitors  \n Atmospheres Deep Exhibition to Explore Humans Connection to the Ocean  \nMarking San Luis Obispo Museum of Art’s (SLOMA) first public show since the beginning of the pandemic\, Atmospheres Deep will premiere for the public at the end of May. This multimedia group exhibition examines coastal regions above and below the ocean’s surface to emulate these atmospheres and uncover human impact on the ocean. The artworks selected for Atmospheres Deep present the feeling of increasing atmospheric pressure experienced during ocean exploration. Atmospheres Deep begins Saturday\, May 29\, and runs through Sunday\, August 1. Reflected in the reopening\, the Museum also announces new hours of 11 a.m. to 5p.m. from Thursday – Monday each week.   \nPresented in collaboration with SUPERCOLLIDER\, Atmospheres Deep draws metaphorical parallels between the real and the psychological pressure we experience in reaction to an impending ecological tipping point for the overall health of marine ecosystems.  \nThe artists featured in the exhibition include Christine Wertheim\, Carolina Caycedo\, Courtney Mattison\, Stephen Ehret\, Elena Soterakis\, Maru Garcia\, Isabel Beavers\, Danielle Parsons\, Richelle Gribble\, Emma Akmakdijan\, among others. For the Atmospheres Deep exhibition\, each artists’ work embodies a desire to rekindle society’s relationship with the world’s oceans and illustrates these critical issues in a range of mixed media video works\, sculptures and paintings.  \n“SLOMA is thrilled to be reopening to our public so we can continue our mission of being accessible\, relevant and exciting to the community we serve\,” said Leann Standish\, executive director of SLOMA. “The California Central Coast region benefits so much from the ecological beauty and diversity of the ocean. Atmospheres Deep will really strike a cord with our regional audiences and highlight important issues.”    \nIn celebration of the Atmospheres Deep exhibition\, SLOMA will host a Zoom panel discussion on June 23 from 6–7 PM PST. The panel discussion will be moderated by Guest Curators Richelle Gribble and Emma Akmakdjian with conversation between Maru Garcia\, Christine Wertheim Elena Soterakis\, and Benjamin Ruttenberg\, marine biologist and Director of Cal Poly’s Center for Coastal Marine Science. Interested parties may register for the panel discussion on the exhibition webpage: https://sloma.org/exhibition/atmospheres-deep/  \nIn addition to reopening\, SLOMA is launching “Gallery on the Go”\, free family art making activities every Second Saturday. For Atmospheres Deep\, the “Gallery on the Go” art kits will contain paintable ocean-themed postcards with Spira algae pigment to be used for the watercolor painting activity. The activity encourages people to think creatively about the use of ocean byproducts and sustainable artistic materials.  \nAtmospheres Deep is generously sponsored by Barbara Renshaw with additional support from Hotel SLO\, Pacific Western Bank and PG&E.   \nSLOMA will also be hosting Objectifying\, an exhibition featuring the sculptures of Elisa Ortega Montilla\, beginning May 29 through June 27\, 2021. Montilla’s work explores the objectification of women’s bodies and mixes fine woodworking with repurposed textiles\, mostly women’s undergarments. These mixed-media sculptures focus on three fundamental parts of who she is: her experience of being a woman and her feminist values; her feelings of acculturation from living in the US while maintaining her Spanish identity; and her opposition to consumerism and commitment to environmental sustainability. In conjunction with this exhibition\, Montilla will be giving an artist talk discussing her practices and the role of feminism in contemporary art via Instagram Live on Wednesday\, June 2 from 6–6:30 PM PST. Viewers can access the conversation at @SLOMuseumOfArt.

SUMMARY:Vina Robles Ampitheatre - Brantley Gilbert
DESCRIPTION:Multi-Platinum hard-rocking country star Brantley Gilbert will play Vina Robles Amphitheatre on Friday\, August 6. Tickets go on sale Thursday\, July 1 at 10 a.m. (PT) via Ticketmaster.com. \nWith back-to-back Platinum albums and a grassroots following millions strong\, Brantley Gilbert’s music has been shared\, covered\, and adopted as the soundtrack to Saturday night and Sunday morning by audiences around the world. The Georgia native who started as the defiant life-of-the-party can still go ‘til sunrise\, but he’s also emerged as something far greater: the leader of a massive tribe of hard-working\, fun-loving believers for whom electric guitar-shredding\, rapping\, and twang can go hand-in-hand-in-hand. They call themselves the BG Nation\, and when the BG Nation watches Gilbert on a stage\, they don’t just see a star. They see themselves. Seven No. 1 hits punctuate his career: “Country Must be Country Wide\,” “You Don’t Know Her Like I Do\,” CMA Awards Song of the Year nominee “Dirt Road Anthem\,” “My Kinda Party\,” RIAA 5x Platinum-certified “Bottoms Up\,” “One Hell of an Amen” and collaboration with Lindsay Ell “What Happens In A Small Town.” Gilbert’s landmark record “Just As I Am” clinched the 2014 American Music Award for Favorite Country Album. Earning praise from the New York Times\, NPR\, American Songwriter\, and more\, Gilbert has mined a rich vein of conflict between the party and the pew on all of his albums. Instead of toiling in limbo\, unable to enjoy good times for fear of Judgment Day\, Gilbert fully lives––rowdy friend\, a man of faith\, devoted husband\, smitten new father––just as he is. His latest single\, “The Worst Country Song Of All Time\,” featuring Toby Keith and HARDY is available everywhere now and climbing the charts at Country radio. For additional information\, visit BrantleyGilbert.com or follow him on Instagram and Twitter @BrantleyGilbert and on Facebook @BrantleyGilbertMusic.

SUMMARY:Meet & Greet for Jimmy Paulding!
DESCRIPTION:Monday\, August 9th 6-8pm \nSouth Bay Community Center \n2180 Palisades Ave\, Los Osos\, CA 93402 \nhttps://jimmypaulding.org/ \n  \nEvent Link: https://jimmypaulding.org/august9/ \n  \nLocal supporters of Jimmy Paulding\, candidate for District 4 County Supervisor\, are hosting a meet and greet in Los Osos on Monday\, August 9 from 6pm to 8pm. The event will give North Coast residents a chance to meet Jimmy and share their ideas for the future of SLO County. \n“Even though I live outside of Jimmy’s district\, I’m eager to support his campaign since the decisions made by the Board of Supervisors affect everyone in our county\,” said Pandora Nash-Karner\, an organizer of the event. “Jimmy is a great listener\, and he has so many great ideas. We need him on the Board of Supervisors.” \nSLO County’s 4th Supervisorial District includes the South County communities of Arroyo Grande\, Nipomo\, and Oceano. \n“I’m running for Supervisor to focus on South County needs\, but right now our entire county suffers from a lack of vision and leadership on the Board of Supervisors\,” Jimmy said. “I want to bring good governance to the whole county.” \n“We have a really fun evening lined up. There will be refreshments\, a raffle\, and homemade beanies. Stop by and see why people across the county are excited to get Jimmy elected\,” said Pandora Nash-Karner. \nThe meet and greet will be held at the South Bay Community Center (2180 Palisades Ave.) from 6pm to 8pm. The event is free and open to the public.

SUMMARY:Cultural Grants-In-Aid Program Webinar
DESCRIPTION:  \n  \n2021-22 GIA Kickoff Webinar\nOrganizations interested in applying to the Cultural Grants-in-Aid program are invited to attend an optional information webinar on Thursday August 12\, 2021 at 12:00 pm. Meeting signups can be completed here or at the information below: \nhttps://slocity-org.zoom.us/j/83243364797?pwd=V1lmYldHVFJLNWY3U0d3eXNmcGQyUT09\n\nZoom Meeting ID: 832 4336 4797\nPasscode: 861407 \nCall-in Phone Number: 1-669-900-6833 \nRegistration for the webinar is required \nProgram Overview\nThe City of San Luis Obispo’s Promotional Coordinating Committee (PCC)\, under direction of the City Council\, recognizes that cultural\, social and recreational organizations make significant contributions to the overall quality of life in the City of San Luis Obispo.  Accordingly\, the City sponsors a Grants-In-Aid (GIA) program to promote such activities within the community and through this program the City awards annual promotional grants totaling approximately $100\,000 to various organizations each year. \nDuring the fiscal year 2021-2022 applications will be accepted throughout the year on a monthly review basis similar to the modified program during 2020-21 in response to COVID-19. More information can be found below with modifications detailed. The 2021-2022 GIA program has two key differences: \n\nGrant awards are fixed at $4000 per application. This greater amount ($2500 previously) means that fewer total grants will be awarded while the total program disbursement ($100\,000) will remain the same.\nIn-person events are allowed so long as they remain consistent with State and County Health Guidance. Additionally virtual/hybrid events are still accepted in this year’s program.\n\nProgram Specifications & Application\nBefore applying for grant funding please review the Program Specifications. To apply complete and submit the application linked: GIA Application \nProgram Timeline\nApplications for funding through the modified GIA program will be accepted at any point throughout the year until funds are exhausted. \n \n\nComplimentary Marketing Support for GIA RecipientsApplications will be reviewed as part of the regular PCC meeting on the second Wednesday of the following month. For example: applications submitted in September\, due on October 1\, will be reviewed on October 13th meeting.  \nThe Promotional Coordinating Committee partners with the San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce to provide additional\, complimentary event promotion and public relations support to GIA recipients. View the many ways in which the SLO Chamber can help drive attendance and increase visibility for your event. See outline below for more information: \nOutline of Services \n2020-2021 Modified Cultural GIA Final Report Process\nCompleted and submit electronically through the GIA Final Report FORM \nPer the requirements set out for the 2020-2021 Modified Grants in Aid Program\, a final report including an administrator’s report\, statistical survey\, financial report\, recognition\, and proof of funding must be turned in within 90 days of funded event. Final report must be received and approved prior to submitting any additional applications. \nFor the City’s Plaza Partnership Program selected organizations must complete the Plaza Partner Final Report FORM within 60 days of their activation conclusion date to stay in good standing with the City of San Luis Obispo. \nFull details of the Final Reporting Guidelines are setout in the agreement attachments and can also be found here. Additional questions and or clarifications can be directed to the City’s Tourism Manager Molly Cano at mcano@slocity.org

SUMMARY:World-renowned Artist Mark di Suvero to Exhibit Paintings at San Luis Obispo Museum of Art
DESCRIPTION:World-renowned Artist Mark di Suvero to Exhibit Paintings at San Luis Obispo Museum of Art \n  \n The San Luis Obispo Museum of Art (SLOMA) proudly announces its upcoming exhibition History and its Shadow featuring internationally acclaimed artist\, Mark di Suvero. SLOMA has partnered with di Suvero to curate the artists largest-ever exhibition of recent paintings at a museum. This groundbreaking show will open to the public on August 14 and run through November 7\, 2021. \n  \nHistory and its Shadow will include the premiere of di Suvero’s latest works\, a series of large blacklight paintings and an ephemeral sculpture series called The Triplets. The painted works are meant to be viewed in two different environments\, both regular light and UV light\, which is a play on the way we know someone by day and then find out subconsciously their dispositions at night. The exhibition will also feature Mamma Mobius\, a monumental sculpture weighing nearly four tons. This contemporary sculpture will be on display on the museum’s lawn for the duration of the exhibition. \n“Mark is one of the world’s most acclaimed artists of our time and we couldn’t be more thrilled to share his inspiring work with San Luis Obispo and the larger California community\,” said Leann Standish\, executive director of SLOMA. “All of us at SLOMA are deeply grateful to Mark for sharing this world premiere exhibition at our museum.” \nDi Suvero has deep ties to the Central Coast\, when he sunk his sailboat off the coast and decided to make the area his home in his early 20s. He was first inspired to become an artist after seeing a painting exhibition at the Santa Barbara Museum of Art\, and currently creates from his studio in Bodega Bay\, CA. \n“I am honored to exhibit in this region that has given so much inspiration to me\,” said di Suvero. “I am deeply committed to supporting art throughout the Central Coast and pleased to share my work at the San Luis Obispo Museum of Art.” \nDi Suvero’s work can be found in more than 100 celebrated museums and collections around the world\, including the Whitney Museum of Art\, Museum of Modern Art and Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Garden. SLOMA is proud to join the ranks of these esteemed institutions and bring di Suvero’s artistry to the local community.

SUMMARY:The Mavericks and Los Lobos at Vina Robles Amphitheatre
DESCRIPTION:THE BOX OFFICE IS CURRENTLY CLOSED. Tickets are available ONLINE ONLY. \n\nGrammy Award winners The Mavericks and Los Lobos will co-headline at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre on August. 14 \nGRAMMY\, CMA & ACM Award-winning band\, The Mavericks\, are an eclectic rock and country group known for crisscrossing musical boundaries with abandon. The group has gone through three distinct phases since it was founded in Miami in 1989. An initial period of heady success marked by big hits and critical acclaim in the ‘90s. A long hiatus starting 2003 when the musicians each went their own way. And finally\, a triumphant reunion in 2012\, which held long enough for them to recently celebrate the band’s 30th anniversary. Now\, The Mavericks are releasing a new album that ushers in the fourth phase of their evolution. Born of Cuban-American roots in Miami\, the Country\, Americana\, and Tejano-infused Rock & Roll band comes full circle to mesh their uplifting eclecticism with a collection of their own Spanish language originals and classic Latin tracks from which they drew inspiration. \nFor over 40 years\, Los Lobos\, has been mixing Latin with soul grooves\, roots rock\, Mexican folk\, traditional Spanish\, blues and R&B. Original members\, David Hidalgo\, Cesar Rosas\, Louie Perez\, Steve Berlin and Conrad Lozano (with the additional help of Enrique “Bugs” Gonzalez and Camilo Quinones) play with an invigorating\, joyous spirit as they revisit four decades of musical magic. The three time Grammy-winning band\, Los Lobos\, have forged a stellar career unlike any other in the rock\, blues or traditional genres by constantly pushing their creative boundaries. The energized performances on “Disconnected In New York City” represent every era of their storied career from “I Got To Let You Know” from “How Will The Wolf Survive?” to their breakout #1 hit “La Bamba” to rarer tracks from their 90’s releases and their last studio album “Tin Can Trust”. Playing with a stripped down ensemble\, the recording\, although not fully acoustic\, shines with a close-knit intimacy.

SUMMARY:Women’s Business Center in San Luis Obispo to Distribute Free N95 Masks
DESCRIPTION:Businesses that need to comply with CA requirements can get masks for their employees \nIn a proactive effort to support local businesses with CalOSHA’s COVID-19 Prevention Emergency Temporary Standards\, the Women’s Business Center of San Luis Obispo County is partnering with PPE Unite\, the Governor’s Office of Business and Economic Development (GO-Biz) and the Governor’s Office of Emergency Services to distribute free N95 face masks on August 17. \nThe latest State regulations requires that California workplaces supply N95 masks for their workers who may need it.  As of June 17\, the State rolled out a program that requires businesses to report which of their employees has been vaccinated or not\, and promptly supply each non-vaccinated employee with an N95 respirator mask at the business owner’s expense.  Employees who decline to provide proof of vaccination or who have a medical exemption are treated as non-vaccinated and mandated to wear the appropriate N95 mask. Employees that have been vaccinated can also choose to wear masks. \nAs the infection rates of COVID and the Delta variant continue to rise\, industries such as assisted living\, homeless shelters\, schools\, theatres\, family entertainment centers\, retail and restaurant businesses will need to be prepared. \nTo support San Luis Obispo County’s small business community\, the Women’s Business Center is offering masks at no charge on Tuesday\, August 17 from 10:30am to 7:00pm at their headquarters\, 71 Zaca Lane\, Ste. 130.  The one-day pickup event is by appointment only to minimize contact and enhance safety protocols per the recent surge of the variant.  Over 2\,000 masks are available. Each employee that is unvaccinated/eligible can receive up to 30 masks.  Contact Program Coordinator\, Laura Edwards\, at (805) 595-1357 or laura@mcscorp.org to schedule an appointment. \n  \n# # # \n  \nMission Community Services Corporation (MCSC) is a 501(c)3 and has been host to the Small Business Administration Women’s Business Center since October 2006. \nIt is dedicated to enhancing opportunities for potential entrepreneurs and small business owners to become self-sustaining\, successful contributors to their communities\, \nwith special assistance for women\, low-income individuals\, minorities\, veterans\, and nonprofit organizations. \n

SUMMARY:Vina Robles Ampitheatre - Rise Against
DESCRIPTION:Fans of RISE AGAINST\, you are about to be liberated from lockdown. Today\, the band – Tim McIlrath/vocals\, guitar\, Joe Principe/bass\, Brandon Barnes/drums\, and Zach Blair/guitars – announces the “Nowhere Generation Tour.” The tour makes a stop at the Vina Robles Amphitheatre on August 18 with special guests Descendents\, The Menzingers. Tickets go on sale Thursday\, June 10 at 10 a.m. PT via Ticketmaster.com. \nJoining Rise Against on this summer’s now 20-stop run will be direct support Descendents\, one of the L.A. south coast’s most outspoken major players in the hardcore punk scene\, and Philadelphia’s The Menzingers\, whose strength as rough-and-tumble storytellers have turned out songs equally rooted in frenetic energy and lifelike detail. \n“A year without live music in a time when we needed it most has been trying for all of us\,” said Rise Against’s Tim McIlrath. “Live music has been missing from all of our lives for far too long. We can’t wait to fix that on the ‘Nowhere Generation Tour.’ It’s been a long year\, and we have a lot to say about it…” \nRise Against’s “Nowhere Generation Tour” is in support of the band’s ninth album\, Nowhere Generation\, the band’s first new studio effort in four years\, due out on June 4 (Loma Vista Records). The album’s first single\, the title track\, is already Top 15 at Rock Radio\, and has accumulated more than four-million global streams. Nowhere Generation was recorded at The Blasting Room in Fort Collins\, Colorado\, under the tutelage of Jason Livermore\, Andrew Berlin\, Chris Beeble\, and long-time producer/engineer Bill Stevenson (Black Flag\, The Descendents). The album fearlessly illustrates why Rise Against is one of music’s most resolute\, politically\, and socially conscious punk rock bands. In a nutshell\, the new album is blistering\, defiant punk rock\, with outspoken lyrics that shine a light on today’s political and economic instability\, the exponential escalation of citizen disenfranchisement\, the blatant sell-out of the Middle Class\, and the inequitable achievement of The American Dream.
