SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents: For the Sake of Keeping
DESCRIPTION:For the Sake of Keeping is an exhibition of contemporary fine craft artworks created in the spirit of remembrance and commemoration. It will be on display at the SLO Museum of Art from June 3rd – August 1st\, 2022. \n“As a curator who frequently visits artists’ studios\, I find that many are in their homes where their most precious possessions are also on display. Their spaces are often filled with work by fellow artists\, trinkets\, or common objects that have been transformed into keepsakes. Occasionally\, artists even hang on their own walls work they created that was never meant for public viewing\, but rather an intimate reflection of their own personal practice. The visits and conversations that occur around these objects allow for deeper insights into the artist’s identity and the world they create for themselves. \nDuring my time visiting the studios of members of the Central Coast Craftmakers\, I have become more and more curious about the personal nature of craftmaking and the objects’ intimate and relatable origins. The artworks on display in this exhibition were all selected because of the story or intention they hold for the artist\, and the living attempt to preserve their own most precious memories. Many pieces even left the interior walls of the artist’s or loved ones’ homes to be displayed here at the Museum. Some were meant to be gifted to children\, some meant to commemorate a moment\, some even meant to house cremated ashes — what connects all these works together is the unmistakable intention to remember.” \nThis exhibition is hosted in partnership with the Central Coast Craftmakers. \nWritten by Courtney Davis\, Curator of For the Sake of Keeping

SUMMARY:Concerts in the Plaza: Resination plus Kevin Graybill
DESCRIPTION:Concerts in the Plaza\, presented by Sunset Honda and hosted by Downtown SLO\, is the largest free concert series on the Central Coast. \nConcerts will be held every Friday from June 24 – August 26 from 4:30 – 8:00 PM at Mission Plaza in Downtown San Luis Obispo. \nAll concerts are free to the public! \n\nVance is taking his musical experiences and branching out into new endeavours. Now laced with his guitar\, vance calls upon sit in musicians of all styles to back his acoustic performances\, and has established a new reggae side project\, Nitely Irie. Vance continues to bring the positive vibes through his music  on the Central Coast of California. \n  \n“Graybill‘s music reminds us that thinking deeply and having fun are not mutually exclusive categories. In one song\, Graybill can make us smile\, tap our feet\, and make us ponder the universe\, sometimes in a single verse! As a modern troubadour\, Graybill’s songs take us on journeys where we meet curious characters\, lost loves\, and future bar mates so that we come away with a feeling that we are all part of one big wide family destined to be together one day.”

SUMMARY:Festival Mozaic and SLO Brew Present Emily Wells
DESCRIPTION:Tickets: $30 in advance / $35 at the door \nDoors Open 8 PM / Concert 9 PM \nForging a bridge between pop and chamber music\, composer\, producer\, and video artist Emily Wells builds songs from deliberate strata of vocals\, synths\, drums\, piano\, string and wind instruments. Her evocative music (described as “visionary” by NPR) and performances (called “quietly transfixing” by the New York Times) impel listeners to be attuned. Wells’s latest release\, the ten-song album Regards to the End\, explores the AIDS crisis\, climate change\, and her lived experience watching the world burn. A work of radical empathy\, Regards to the End foregrounds the power of art\, critique\, and care to connect and perhaps redeem us. \nNOTE: All shows at SLO Brew Rock are general admission. While this venue is mostly standing room only\, some seating towards the back and sides of the room will be available.  Food and drinks available for purchase. \n  \n  \n
