SUMMARY:SLO Museum of Art Presents: For the Sake of Keeping
DESCRIPTION:For the Sake of Keeping is an exhibition of contemporary fine craft artworks created in the spirit of remembrance and commemoration. It will be on display at the SLO Museum of Art from June 3rd – August 1st\, 2022. \n“As a curator who frequently visits artists’ studios\, I find that many are in their homes where their most precious possessions are also on display. Their spaces are often filled with work by fellow artists\, trinkets\, or common objects that have been transformed into keepsakes. Occasionally\, artists even hang on their own walls work they created that was never meant for public viewing\, but rather an intimate reflection of their own personal practice. The visits and conversations that occur around these objects allow for deeper insights into the artist’s identity and the world they create for themselves. \nDuring my time visiting the studios of members of the Central Coast Craftmakers\, I have become more and more curious about the personal nature of craftmaking and the objects’ intimate and relatable origins. The artworks on display in this exhibition were all selected because of the story or intention they hold for the artist\, and the living attempt to preserve their own most precious memories. Many pieces even left the interior walls of the artist’s or loved ones’ homes to be displayed here at the Museum. Some were meant to be gifted to children\, some meant to commemorate a moment\, some even meant to house cremated ashes — what connects all these works together is the unmistakable intention to remember.” \nThis exhibition is hosted in partnership with the Central Coast Craftmakers. \nWritten by Courtney Davis\, Curator of For the Sake of Keeping

SUMMARY:Concerts in the Plaza: Moonshiner Collective plus Miss Leo
DESCRIPTION:Concerts in the Plaza\, presented by Sunset Honda and hosted by Downtown SLO\, is the largest free concert series on the Central Coast. \nConcerts will be held every Friday from June 24 – August 26 from 4:30 – 8:00 PM at Mission Plaza in Downtown San Luis Obispo. \nAll concerts are free to the public! \n\nMoonshiner Collective is the San Luis Obispo\, California based musical project of multi-instrumentalist singer-songwriter Dan Curcio\, 8 string guitarist Gary Wooten\, and drummer/percussionist Ryan House that draws from a diverse range of rock\, blues\, funk\, and Americana influences. The band’s goal is for each song\, live performance\, and album to have its own distinct sound and style.  While their instrumentation and genre bending styles continually evolve\, Moonshiner Collective songs center around family\, love\, optimism\, nature\, and the power of community with Curcio’s distinctively warm and soulful voice and introspective lyrics as the connecting thread. The music’s unifying positivity bridges gaps in generations and genres with a sound and message that combines good time music with a soulful and passionate depth. \n  \nMiss Leo is a soulgrass songstress with a fresh West Coast take on a timeless genre. A lifelong California native\, her songs are inspired by the natural treasures of her homeland intertwined with authentic melodies of decades past. Her effortless ability to channel poetry through her spell-binding voice into song is a force to be reckoned with while her distinct guitar playing deserves a nod of its own\, complete with old-timey licks and unwavering rhythm. Currently residing by the ocean on the foggy Central Coast\, Miss Leo seeks to carry on American music traditions with her soul-tickling vocals and a modern twang. Most often you’ll find her leading a folk trio (“Miss Leo Trio”) at live performances; her best buds on upright bass and fiddle by her side.

SUMMARY:Anjelah Johnson at Vina Robles
DESCRIPTION:Stand-up comedian\, actress and author Anjelah Johnson-Reyes\, who announced the first leg of her 2022 national WHO DO I THINK I AM? tour\, adds more than 25 additional dates through the summer inclusive of stops at Nederlander Concerts’ venues\, Vina Robles Amphitheatre in Paso Robles\, Saturday\, Aug. 13\, and City National Grove of Anaheim\, Saturday\, Aug. 20. Tickets will go on sale to the general public on Friday\, March 4\, at 10 AM local\, and are available at www.Anjelah.com \nJohnson-Reyes’ memoir WHO DO I THINK I AM? (Worthy Books) publishes. A limited number of signed books and VIP meet and greets will be available at each venue for purchase.>span class=”Apple-converted-space”> \nAudiences may know Anjelah Johnson-Reyes for her viral sketch “Nail Salon” (over 100 million views worldwide) or her beloved MadTV character Bon Qui Qui (65million views worldwide)\, but it’s her clean humor and hilarious storytelling that make her one of the most successful stand-up comedians today. \nIn her book\, WHO DO I THINK I AM?\, Anjelah shares hilarious stories about her life\, from her irrational fear of death (“Please Don’t Die\, Okay?”) to growing up caught between two worlds (“I’m Mexican/Hella American”) to her cultural pride (“Chola Wishes & Caviar Dreams”). Tapping into her Mexican roots\, she offers a choice of stories that are mild (“Do You & Do You Well”)\, medium (“I’m Dating You Because I’m Hungry”) and spicy (“I Love Jesus But I Will Punch A ‘Ho”). \nThe book follows Anjelah’s unlikely journey as she transforms from a suburban kid with Aquanet-drenched hair into a Christian who abstains from drinking and premarital sex\, into a mall-famous Raider cheerleader\, and then an actually famous comedian traveling the world and meeting people from all-walks of life. \nHumor and authenticity allow Anjelah to seamlessly navigate racial identity\, finding her place in the world\, chasing crazy dreams\, and the messiness of an ever-evolving faith journey\, all the while searching for belonging and meaning. Through her journey\, Anjelah gets closer to discovering her true identity and encourages readers and fans to have the audacity to dream big. \nOver the past several months\, Anjelah has been touring North America closing out her wildly popular TECHNICALLY NOT STALKING tour\, and workshopping material for her massive new WHO DO I THINK I AM? tour. The new material is deeply personal and relatable\, reflecting on the changes in her life over the past few years. \n  \n“A lot has changed since COVID. For the past couple of years\, I have evolved\, learned\, un-learned\, started tasks\, didn’t finish them\, planted\, uprooted\, did too many TikTok dances\, and ate all the bread my friends made. I can’t wait to share some stories from this past season and connect with old fans and new fans as we have all be on quite the adventure since 2020\,” says Johnson-Reyes. \nTickets for the Summer leg of the WHO DO I THINK I AM? tour will go on sale on Friday\, March 4th\, at 10AM local time. Artist pre-sale tickets will be available to fans on Wednesday\, March 2nd\, at 10am local for those following Anjelah on her various social platforms.
