DESCRIPTION:Adoption Fees Reduced to $50 from March 18 through April 2 to Make Space for Incoming Animals \nAs many prepare for spring break vacations\, Woods Humane Society is preparing for a flood of spring kittens and puppies in need of shelter by hosting a Spring Shelter Break adoption promotion from March 18th through April 2nd\, 2023. All adoption fees will be reduced to $50 (plus license fees for dogs and puppies) to encourage adoptions and help make space for the hundreds of animals it expects to take in over the coming months. \n“As temperatures warm\, unaltered dogs and cats begin reproducing\, which results in a deluge of young animals in need of food\, shelter and medical care\,” explains Woods Interim CEO Emily L’Heureux. “From April through December\, we will take in around 800 kittens or more\, many of whom are newly born\, sick and in need of round-the-clock care.” \nIn anticipation of the annual rise in baby animals that stretches the shelter’s capacity to the max\, L’Heureux hopes the Spring Shelter Break adoption promotion will help clear space and find loving homes for the animals currently available for adoption. \n“Typically\, when the busy travel and vacation season begins\, we see adoptions slow down overall. By significantly reducing fees for two weeks\, we aim to boost awareness and interest\, while also removing some of the initial financial barriers to adopting.” \nL’Heureux also notes that spring is a great time for locals to consider adopting\, as warmer and longer days invite outdoor excursions with a dog. “A four-legged friend makes a perfect companion for spring break and beyond!” \nThe Spring Shelter Break promotion begins March 18th and runs through April 2nd\, 2023. All animals have been spayed/neutered\, vaccinated\, microchipped\, licensed\, and treated for parasites. The friendly bacteria\, Mycobacterium vaccae\, present in the soil stimulates serotonin production\, acting as a natural antidepressant. We believe the lack of understanding around prenatal and postnatal care has resulted in isolated\, overlooked\, and overwhelmed mothers\, and that “postnatal” is not a stage\, but forever. The SLO Botanical Garden offers a safe space (and plenty of healthy soil) to help us connect to our bodies\, our littles\, the natural world\, and each other. Including snacks\, activities\, and care for little ones\, join us for grounding in your pregnancy and lifelong postpartum journey. \nThis program is facilitated by Victoria Carranza\, The Gardening Doula. \nThis class is FREE for all members and $10 for the general public. Expected attendance will be between 100-150 people. Light bites and wine will be provided by Vina Robles Vineyards & Winery. \nParticipation requires the following: \n\nMUST be a current 2023 Associate member of the PRWCA\nOne person required to staff table\nTable must be set up between 2:30 – 3:30 p.m. on April 6 before the event begins at 4:00 p.m.\n\nThe deadline to register your company to exhibit is Monday\, March 13. \nAn invite to all PRWCA members to attend the event will be sent Monday\, March 6.
