Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Pacific Wildlife Care has been providing wildlife education and rehabilitation services since the mid 80s. As they hit their 40 year anniversary, they recently hired a new Executive Director, Kristin Howland, to lead them into the next 40 years. Kristin will join us to talk about Pacific Wildlife Care and this new chapter.
We were all preparing for a future where the Diablo Canyon Power Plant was being decommissioned, but that changed in September 2022. We’ve invited Maureen Zawalick, Vice President of Nuclear Business & Technical Services, to come to Good Morning SLO and discuss what the future holds for the extension of operations at Diablo Canyon.
Internet access and tech use in the classroom are non-negotiables for students of today. Our schools are working to find the balance between providing high quality tech access and limiting student use of distracting apps and websites. Dr. Eric Prater, Superintendent of San Luis Coastal School District, will talk about how they are working through this issue.
Mustang News, the Cal Poly Journalism Department’s digital newspaper, is making waves in the college news reporting space and taking home many awards. We’ve invited Chloe Lovejoy, Mustang News Editor-In-Chief, to share more about what Mustang News has been up to, its community impact and the prestigious Pacemaker Award the paper recently received.
We often hear that dating in our community can be tough, but did you know the Central Coast has its very own professional matchmaker? Andrea LaRosa, owner of Date Smarter Matchmaking, will join us onstage to tell us more about her work and how she finds the place between the intersection of love and compatibility.
After nearly 13 years of service to the people of the City of San Luis Obispo, almost seven of which as City Manager, Derek Johnson will be leaving his role. We’ve invited Derek to the Good Morning SLO stage one final time to say farewell, share what he remembers most fondly and give us any final thoughts before his last day.
We’ll close out the morning with a performance from Opera San Luis Obispo ahead of their Mother’s Day Weekend grand production of the Disney musical Beauty and the Beast.
