Thank you for taking the time to read our privacy policy. The San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce(“the SLO Chamber”, “we”, or “us”), your privacy is of the utmost importance. We want you to be fully informed about the information we collect, how it is used, shared, and protected, as well as the choices you have with it.
We help our San Luis Obispo Chamber of Commerce business community members and prospective members (collectively, “Community Members”) engage with their local community through various business development activities, including news updates, directory listings, events, sponsorships, employment services, and other San Luis Obispo community activities (collectively, our “Services”). This privacy policy sets out how we collect, use, process, store, and disclose personal information in providing the Services.

1. PERSONAL INFORMATION WE COLLECT
Community Members Information:
In order to serve our Community Members, the SLO Chamber will collect various information on our Community Members, including:
- Professional business information including your name, company name, title, company email, phone number, postal address, company website URL or professional/business social media reference.
- In person or online event registration and attendance information.
- Correspondence, which may include any personal information provided during an email or chat correspondence or Community Member service engagement.
- Billing and administrative finance information, as well as any purchase information associated with our retail merchant shop.
- Personal or profile information associated with interactions through our social media presence, including from individuals who may ‘like’, comment or otherwise engage with us through those social media websites or apps.
- Automatically collected information associated with your use of our website, including time spent on our website, referral traffic, page-specific activity, and metadata associated with your browser or device interactions. See ‘Cookies and Tracking Technologies’ below for more information.
We do not intentionally collect any personal information from children under the age of 16. If you believe we have obtained personal information associated with children under the age of 16, please contact us at [email protected] and we will delete it.
2. HOW WE USE PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may use personal information for the following purposes:
- To provide our Services, notably hosting events, publishing business information in our directory, promoting event or SLO Chamber sponsors, assisting with new business development, onboarding new businesses into the SLO Chamber, assisting with employee recruiting, or facilitating other SLO Chamber Member benefits.
- Providing Community Members with communications support, including phone and email.
- To facilitate sales of products through our retail or ecommerce shop.
- To improve our Services, for example, we use your information to improve our website, communications, events or membership directory.
- To authenticate, verify or otherwise mitigate the risk of fraud.
- For any legal purpose necessary, including if the SLO Chamber is required to process information as a result of a court order or other legal or regulatory proceeding.
We may also use or share any aggregated or anonymous information we process for any permissible purpose under the law.
3. HOW WE DISCLOSE PERSONAL INFORMATION
We may disclose Community Members information in order to:
- Provide our services through contracted service providers who provide these services with our express written instructions, including use of the following types of services;
- Website hosting, including creation of contact or subscription forms;
- Retail and ecommerce store shopping cart and fulfilment services;
- Email, chat or phone communications;
- Event planning, registration and hosting;
- Business directory compilation and distribution;
- Video and photo capture or production;
- Advertising and marketing services
- Other necessary uses.
- Protect the legal rights of our Community Members, our employees, our agents, and our affiliates.
- Protect the safety and security of those who access and use our Services.
- Detect and protect against fraud.
- Comply with law or legal process.
4. PRIVACY CHOICES
We provide our Community Members with the following choices with our use of your personal information:
- Access and/or modify the personal information we maintain about you.
- Delete the personal information we maintain about you.
- Opt out of certain uses of your personal information, notably:
- Marketing Emails: To opt out of marketing e-mail communications, you may click the ‘unsubscribe’ link in the marketing emails.

If you are a former employee of a Community Member Business, and you would like for the SLO Chamber to delete or otherwise act upon your privacy choices related to the personal information we maintain about you on behalf of our Community Business Members, please contact a representative of that Community Member Business rather than email us with your request. We cannot provide personal information about a specific individual on behalf of a Community Member Business without their express written instructions.
5. COOKIES AND OTHER TRACKING TECHNOLOGIES
We may use cookies, pixels, and other tracking technologies to collect information about your browsing activities, your interactions with our websites or emails, and to enable SLO Chamber ads to be served on other websites. There are a number of ways to opt out of having your online activity and device data collected through these services, which we summarize below.
- Blocking Cookies In Your Browser. Most browsers let you remove or reject cookies, including cookies used for interest-based advertising. 6. SECURITY
We maintain reasonable safeguards to protect against unauthorized access, use, modification, and disclosure of personal information in our custody and control. Despite our efforts, we cannot guarantee that unauthorized access or use will never occur. It is important that you take steps to keep your information safe and secure. Choose an account password that is hard for others to guess and don’t reveal it to third parties. If you use a shared public computer, do not opt to have your login ID or password remembered and be sure to log out of your account when you finish.
7. RETENTION
We will retain Community Members personal information as long as our Community Members are active with the SLO Chamber, or until they request deletion.
8. CALIFORNIA-SPECIFIC NOTICE
The SLO Chamber is a designated 501(c)(6) nonprofit organization, and is exempt from compliance with the California Consumer Privacy Act, as amended by the California Privacy Rights Act or “CPRA” (collectively, the “CCPA”). Regardless, rest assured that the SLO Chamber does not ‘sell’ personal information as defined by the CCPA, or collect and process any information deemed ‘sensitive under the CCPA. Any collection, use and publicity of Community Members personal information through our Business Directory or other business development services is provided at the express instruction of our Community Members. Please see the Privacy Choices section above if you would like to exercise any of the choices we provide to our Community Members.
9. THIRD-PARTY ADVERTISEMENTS AND LINKS
The Services may contain advertisements and/or links to other sites. Please be aware that we are not responsible for the content or privacy practices of such other sites. We encourage our users to be aware when they leave our sites and to read the privacy statements of any other site that collects personally identifiable information.
10. CHANGES TO THIS PRIVACY POLICY
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time as we update or expand our Services. If we make material changes, we will post the updated Privacy Policy on this page with a ‘Last Updated’ effective date of the revisions. We encourage you to look for updates and changes to this Privacy Policy by checking this page when you access our Services.
