United Way of San Luis Obispo County is proud to announce the recipient of the 2014 Innovation Award, RISE SLO. The Innovation Award recognizes a local not-for-profit organization for creative approaches and programs that provide value to the SLO County community in the areas of education, income and health.
RISE SLO exhibits the three inventive characteristics of the Innovation Award – lasting change, practical collaboration and internal transformation. In bringing two organizations together, Sexual Assault Recovery & Prevention Center and North County Women’s Shelter & Resource Center, they created one agency serving survivors and loved ones of sexual assault and intimate partner violence in San Luis Obispo County, providing better service to clients with integrated, comprehensive services for those affected by sexual assault/abuse and intimate partner violence.
RISE SLO also received a cash award in the amount of $7,500, sponsored this year by Don Maruska & Company, Inc., IQMS, MindBody, and RRM Design Group.
16 local nonprofit organizations applied for the award. Honorable mention was also given to the San Luis Obispo County Bicycle Coalition for their improved Bike Kitchen Bike Education Cooperative Program.
This is the 12th year that United Way of San Luis Obispo County has selected a particular program for additional funding. The Innovation Award is separate from United Way’s annual Community Impact Fund Grant program. The Innovation Award’s emphasis is on creative and effective approaches that achieve measurable results and utilize a variety of resources and partnerships within and outside of the nonprofit community. Nominees demonstrate an organizational ability to adapt to the changing conditions in our communities in order to meet critical social needs.
