Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
Featured Speakers:
STRAIGHTJACKETS AND LUNCH MONEY
A renowned nonfiction author and international journalist, Katya Cengal has led an interesting life. She’ll join us during Eating Disorder Awareness Month to talk about her most recent book, Straightjackets and Lunch Money, that dives into her experience as a kid in a psychosomatic treatment center.

MISSION PLAZA’S FACELIFT
The construction fencing is up in Mission Plaza, but what is happening behind it? When will it be done? Scott Collins, the City of SLO’s Assistant City Manager, will join us to answer those questions and share more about the project, the timeline of the work and what we should expect when the final product is finished.
IMMIGRATION ENFORCEMENT AND YOUR TEAM
Central Coast business owners from every sector are concerned about how new federal immigration enforcement could impact their teams. Community advocate and former attorney, Joel Diringer, will reflect on these concerns and share perspectives on how organizations can support their employees and mitigate negative impacts to their business as a result of the shift in approach to immigration enforcement.
SLO REP’S NEW CHAPTER
For the last few years, SLO Repertory Theatre has been working on a capital campaign to bring their new venue into reality. That new venue is closer than ever with the city’s parking structure construction nearing completion, but the capital campaign needs just a bit more to bring it to fruition. Kevin Harris, SLO Rep’s Managing Artistic Director, will be on hand to share the latest.
MANAGING THE COUNTY
It’s coming up on one year since new County Administrative Officer Matt Pontes came back home to our community to take over the reins of the administration of SLO County’s government. Matt will join us on Thursday morning to talk about the opportunities and challenges that have made up his first year and what is coming down the pipeline.
DEBATING IN NATURE
The first Sierra Sustainability Summit took place last year, an award-winning advocacy competition in Yosemite National Park born out of Cal Poly. Shane Patrick and Dr. John Patrick, founders of the summit, will join us to share more about the importance of teaching students to apply advocacy skills to water and land management, public access, environmental justice and equity.
MILLION DOLLAR QUARTET
We will cap off our morning with some classic rock ‘n roll courtesy of SLO REP and their current production of Million Dollar Quartet. The original Man in Black, Johnny Cash, will send us on our way with a song in our heads and in our hearts.
