Your community newspaper brought to life.
Good Morning SLO is our platform for sharing ideas, news and inspiration. A monthly program that brings community leaders, business owners, nonprofit executives and staffers together, and enables us to reconnect, engage and learn from each other.
Our goal is to provide insight into business, community and legislative issues and share the stories of those making a difference. We want audience members to leave with ideas and information about how to better their personal and professional lives.
Good Morning SLO happens on the fourth Thursday of every month except November when it is on the Tuesday before Thanksgiving.
FEATURING
A STELLAR MAIN STREET
California Main Street works with communities to revitalize downtowns and commercial districts through place-based economic development. This year, San Luis Obispo is the host city for the California Main Streets Conference and the epitome of a thriving downtown. LeBren Harris will join us from Downtown SLO to tell us more about this honor and what the conference will bring to our downtown core.
EMMY-WINNING DIGITAL DEMOCRACY
Digital Democracy, a nonpartisan, AI-powered project created at Cal Poly and operated in partnership with CalMatters, earned an Emmy Award for political reporting by harnessing AI to reveal hidden patterns in state government. Christine Robertson, Senior Advisor for the project, will dive into the Emmy win, the project as a whole and how it’s impacting journalism statewide.
ROSE CARE GROUP
With the recent elimination of local home health and hospice care services, our community has a major need. Rose Care Group, senior care specialists, are stepping in and expanding their services. Alan Iftiniuk, Rose Care Group’s new CEO, and Corina Segundo, co-owner and Administrator of Aevum Home Health and Hospice, will tell us more about the expansion and what it means for our community.
HAIRY, BUT NOT SO SCARY
If you’ve gone hiking on the Central Coast in the fall, there’s a big chance you’ve seen a migrating tarantula out in the wild. Karen Johnston, Wildlife Rehabber and Educator with Pacific Wildlife Care, will join us with her husband and son to share more about our local tarantula population and how, while they make look scary, they’re not only harmless, but actually helpful to our ecosystem.
DRAGONS ON THE CENTRAL COAST
Have you ever seen the human-powered boats on Morro Bay with intricate dragon heads at the bow? Sandy Mitchell will join us from Central Coast Dragon Boat Association to tell us about the sport, its importance in the breast cancer survivor and supporter space and how they welcome paddlers of all experience levels.
THE REALITY OF IMMIGRATION
We’ve been seeing an increase in ICE raids happening throughout the country and state, but what does it look like here on the Central Coast and how is it impacting our economy? Lucas Lichy, owner of Shine in Time Cleaning, will join us to share the story of one of his employees who followed the legal process for more than a decade and was still deported.
