Festival Mozaic proudly presents the San Luis Obispo Music Festival, returning February 19–22, 2026, with a compelling winter celebration of chamber music led by Music Director Scott Yoo and featuring internationally acclaimed violinist Lucia Micarelli. Performances and events will take place at venues throughout San Luis Obispo, bringing world-class artistry to California’s Central Coast.

Renowned for his visionary programming and commitment to musical storytelling, Scott Yoo curates a dynamic and immersive festival experience that blends beloved masterworks with fresh perspectives. This season’s programming highlights Lucia Micarelli’s singular voice as a performer, praised for her “thrillingly soulful” sound and stylistic range that bridges classical traditions with contemporary expression.

Trio: An Introduction to Chamber Music for Grades K-2

Harold J. Miossi Cultural & Performing Arts Center, Cuesta College

Festival Mozaic is thrilled to be once again partnering with the San Luis Coastal Unified School District to produce two back-to-back interactive chamber music programs for students in kindergarten, first, and second grades. Students from six SLCUSD elementary schools will be bussed to the Harold J. Miossi CPAC for this 35-minute program led by Music Director Scott Yoo and featuring performers Bion Tsang and Orion Weiss.

This program is generously underwritten by the Marcie & John Lindvall Community & Education Initiative.

Lucia Micarelli: Anthropology

Harold J. Miossi Cultural & Performing Arts Center, Cuesta College

Festival Mozaic welcomes back violinist and singer Lucia Micarelli for an intimate performance featuring her latest project, Anthropology. This program is a journey through the rich and living history of folk and roots music from around the world.

Led by Micarelli on violin and vocals, and joined by Eric Byers (cello) and Nathan Farrington (bass/vocals), the trio revisits songs passed down across centuries and continents, reshaped by each generation. The program spans Renaissance and Baroque music, traditional tunes from the Balkans and the Scottish Highlands, 18th-century Appalachian music, and contemporary narratives by artists such as Nina Simone
and Joni Mitchell. Anthropology is a living archive of everyday stories and the shared human experience.

Notable Insight: Strauss On-Stage

Join Scott Yoo and the Festival artists for a one-hour, on-stage exploration of Richard Strauss’s Cello Sonata in F major, Op. 6. Designed as a “museum docent’s tour,” this engaging event includes discussion of the composer’s influences, historical context, and musical style, along with live performance excerpts. Audience members will be seated onstage with the performers for a rare, up-close experience.

Join Scott Yoo and Festival artists for an interactive musical exploration of Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2 in
E-flat major. The program blends insight, conversation, and live performance excerpts, offering
audiences a deeper understanding of the composer and the work.

The evening concludes with a gourmet three-course dinner paired with award-winning Central Coast
wines generously provided by Adelaida Vineyards and Claiborne & Churchill.

Chamber Music with Scott Yoo

Scott Yoo is joined by cellist Bion Tsang and pianist Orion Weiss for an afternoon of masterful chamber music. The program features two cornerstone works of the repertoire. Richard Strauss’s Cello Sonata, originally drafted in his teenage years and later substantially revised, has become a staple of the cello literature. Schubert’s Piano Trio No. 2, a nearly 45-minute work, represents the composer’s deliberate shift away from vocal music and is celebrated for its rich textures and expansive scope.
