Habitat for Humanity San Luis Obispo County is excited to announce the rebranding of its popular fundraiser series from Year of Beer to Year of Cheer, reflecting the growing variety of participating hosts and the joyful, community-centered spirit behind the events. A full list can be found at www.habitatslo.org.
Now entering a new chapter, Year of Cheer continues the same successful model supporters love: enjoy food, drinks and time with friends at local establishments while a portion of sales is donated to Habitat SLO, at no additional cost to guests. Proceeds support Habitat SLO’s home preservation and affordable homeownership projects throughout San Luis Obispo County.
“Year of Cheer better reflects what this series has become,” said Dawn Smith, Director of Development for Habitat SLO. “It’s about community, connection and the collective joy of showing up for our neighbors. Whether you’re sipping cider, enjoying a meal, or raising a glass with friends, you’re helping make safe, affordable homeownership possible right here in SLO County.”
Ancient Owl Beer Garden & Bottle Shoppe has been a series’ host since the inaugural year. “Ancient Owl Beer Garden is proud to support Habitat SLO through Year of Cheer events because we believe strong communities begin with safe, affordable housing,” said Alanna Andruszkiewicz, Ancient Owl Owner and Co-Founder. “As a neighborhood gathering place, we are committed to giving back in ways that create lasting local impact and bring people together for a greater purpose. By partnering with Habitat SLO, we’re raising a glass to hope, stability and building brighter futures.”
Habitat SLO CEO Anthony Overton emphasized the impact these partnerships have beyond the events themselves. “Year of Cheer is a powerful example of how local businesses and community members come together to create lasting change,” Overton said. “Every event helps preserve housing for low income families and seniors, and moves us closer to a future where everyone in San Luis Obispo County has a safe, stable place to call home.”
Community members are invited to sip, dine, and cheer for an important cause at the following participating locations: January 22 – Oak and Otter Brewing Co.; February 12 – Wild Fields Brewhouse; February 24 – The Hub; March 20 – Shindig Cider; May 19 – Ancient Owl (Atascadero); June 25 – Humdinger Brewing (Arroyo Grande); July 4 – Taco Temple; July 14 – Ancient Owl (SLO); July 28 – The Ravine; August 4, 11, 18 & 25 – The Brightside; September 27 – Birchwood Nipomo; November 2 – Cal Coast Brewing Co. and December 10 – Paso Robles Beer Co. and SLO Market at The Ranch.
Each Year of Cheer event also includes a Habitat ReStore coupon, allowing participants to receive special discounts at Habitat SLO’s ReStores in Paso Robles and San Luis Obispo.
Taco Temple joined the series last year. “We have been in business for a long time here on the central coast,” said Melissa Davies, Taco Temple Co-owner. “We are so lucky to live here that anything we can do to help our community we gladly pitch in. Habitat SLO is a great resource for people who need a little help.”
“It’s one of the easiest and most joyful ways to give back,” Smith added. “You’re supporting local businesses, spending time with people you love, and helping Habitat serve families, seniors, and veterans across SLO County, all at the same time. I hope to see you at a Year of Cheer event.”
