SLO Box Art is a streetscape showcase for talented local artists, students, and community members to transform standard utility boxes into new public artworks, adding to the vibrancy of our cityscape while creating a sense of place and identity.
The City is refreshing 8 utility boxes with new artwork, and we’re inviting local artists to help transform these everyday structures into vibrant pieces of public art.
This year, proposals may be submitted for vinyl wrap art OR hand-painted designs, which will be installed directly onto the utility boxes! This means, submissions in all artistic mediums, including painting, drawing, photography, digital art, textile, mixed media, and more are welcome. Whether you’re an emerging artist or a seasoned creative, this is a great opportunity to showcase your work in a highly visible public space.
A project information session will be held on April 28, 2026 from 5 –7 p.m. at the SLO County/City Library Community Room at 995 Palm St. in SLO, followed by an application support workshop on May 12, 2026 from 5 –7 p.m. Applicants are encouraged to attend both events to support their application process.
