The way the City of San Luis Obispo will elect Council Members is changing beginning with the November 2026 election, and the City is working to help community members understand what’s changing, what’s staying the same, and how to make their vote count.

Under the new Citywide Single Vote system, voters will choose one Council Member candidate instead of two, while the top two candidates with the most votes will still win. Voters will continue to vote citywide and participate in every Council Member election.

The City is hosting community meetings, pop-up information booths, and sharing easy-to-understand educational materials throughout the year to help voters feel informed and prepared before Election Day.

Every vote matters, and staying informed is one of the best ways to make your vote count.
