Two years after opening its doors in downtown SLO, the Granada Hotel and Bistro is looking to expand. The 17-room, 4-star boutique hotel – which has garnered national attention including from The New York Times – is hoping to add 23 new rooms to a new structure on its back parking lot. The addition will reflect the industrial look and feel of its current home with a garden connecting the two buildings. Initial concepts for the new structure include a rooftop hot tub and lounge area for guests, along with in-room fireplaces. As part of the plans, the current owners – the Lunacy Club – intend to make improvements to the current site to allow for expanded sidewalk dining and a space for valet service, as the renovations would eliminate all on-site parking. The project is expected to enter the city advisory body process in early 2015, with sidewalk improvements planned for mid-2015, and a goal to start construction in late summer/early fall 2015. Steven Puglisi Architecture and Specialty Construction are leading the design and construction of the project.
