FRINGE Family Concert: The Pooka and the Fiddler with Colcannon
The Pooka and the Fiddler is a story told in verse and accompanied by traditional Irish music. Based on an old Irish folk tale (with verse by Colcannon’s Mick Bolger) it’s the story of a young lad who is an execrable fiddle player and general wastrel. One night, on his way home from a céilí (an Irish dance gathering), he is abducted by a pooka — a mythical, nine foot tall goat-like creature — and recruited to be the house musician for a very unusual gathering. What he learns there transforms him as a fiddler and as a person. Engaging for audiences young and old, this is especially suited to families with budding musicians! Colcannon’s recording of The Pooka and the Fiddler was a 2008 Parents’ Choice Award winner. $10-$25
