Rancher and former educator, Supervisor Debbie Arnold has announced the endorsement of Atascadero City Council member Brian Sturtevant.
First elected in 2010, Sturtevant served on the Planning Commission from 2008 to 2010. He places an importance on maintaining a “business-friendly” city by loosening regulations and laying groundwork to attract new businesses, where both new and existing businesses are able to thrive. He advocates for a sense of community between the council, staff and people of Atascadero, creating a “we” mentality. The former mayor pro tem was re-elected to the council in 2014. He works as a mechanical maintenance supervisor at Diablo Canyon Power Plant.
“Debbie keeps the county moving forward,” Sturtevant said. “She is the reason the area has become stronger economically over the last few years. She has proven to be an outstanding leader for the region and San Luis Obispo County needs her.”
Arnold is also the immediate past president of the San Luis Obispo Council of Governments, overseeing transportation issues for all of the city governments in the county. She is passionate about the issue of county roads and has advocated for full funding of the road maintenance budget. She has also been lauded as a hero for taxpayers on the Central Coast, working hard to prioritize revenue and avoid frivolous spending that can lead to higher taxes.
Debbie and her husband, Steve, live in the Pozo area where they own and operate their generational family ranching business. They are the proud parents of two grown children, Joey Arnold (wife Jessica), Michelle Pascoe (husband Ryan) and grandparents of four little girls.
