Salon 544 will host a silent auction of art created from reusable materials during Art After Dark on March 1 from 6 to 9 p.m.
All proceeds will benefit the Smart Studio, a green community studio, gallery and gift shop that allows artists of all ages to creatively reuses materials to make art, crafts, garden materials and household goods.
The Smart Studio is a program of the Child Development Resource Center of the Central Coast, and it helps raise funds for the CDRC’s therapy and child development programs. The Smart Studio uses recycled and donated materials in its San Luis Obispo County programs which include art, gardening, ecology, crafting and household repurposing with the end result of beautifying the Central Coast in an ecologically friendly way.
This is the second time Salon 544 has partnered with the CDRC and Smart Studio to support community programs. In 2011, the salon raised $1,100 for the CDRC’s therapy programs when it sponsored a similar silent auction.
“This silent auction will help us continue our community programs and strengthen families on the Central Coast,” said Terri Kurczewski, executive director of the Child Development Center of the Central Coast.
The Child Development Resource Center of the Central Coast is a nonprofit organization located in San Luis Obispo that is dedicated to providing child development and therapeutic services to strengthen families regardless of income or situation. The organization works in partnership with families by involving them in their children’s lives and preparing children for school readiness.
Children and families who graduate from CDRC’s comprehensive preschool program typically need no further mental health, social service, or justice system assistance. Graduates of the program go on to become doctors, teachers, counselors, and other community leaders.
The best kept secret in SLO County for the past 40 years, CDRC has now opened their doors to all community members who could use support in their preschool or therapy programs. Any and all donations given to the CDRC help to support services that help children heal and move toward a bright future.
