The Sierra Club, America’s largest and most influential grassroots organization to protect our environment and our planet, launched GreenHome® in 2009, a destination website to help us make our homes more energy efficient, environmentally sustainable and healthy.

Recently, Sierra Club Executive Director Carl Pope set out to “green” his home and discovered a problem: even for him, this wasn’t so simple. Plenty of information was available, but widely disparate and sometimes conflicting sources made things confusing. Thus, Sierra Club GreenHome was born.
“Sierra Club GreenHome does not sell products or services. Instead, we educate consumers on how to improve their home health and connect them with providers that can help them achieve their goals,” said Jennifer Schwab, Chief Sustainability Officer and Sierra Club GreenHome Co-Founder.
All Sierra Club GreenHome listed providers must pass a GreenCheck© validation program before being allowed to participate in Sierra Club GreenHome programs and listings. The process includes a one-hour interview with a Sierra Club GreenHome auditor to verify certain criteria including; a company-sponsored education program, community outreach, recycling programs, office energy efficiency, industry certification and training, “SCGH is great from a B2B perspective because it gives us access to other approved providers who are sharing the latest innovation in their industries. They, have created a learning and resource center that is not just valuable and trusted by consumers, but also by industry providers like us,” said Emrich.
At the Sierra Club GreenHome website, sierraclubgreenhome.com, a consumer can visit a number of community centers, including the solar center, recycling center, learning center, video library, and so much more. The website is especially useful by making is easy for a homeowner to request more information or a quote from Sierra Club GreenHome approved providers in areas such as energy audits, solar electricity, air quality, lighting, home health and more.
