A community fund was established by longtime local lender The Mortgage House in celebration of its 20 year anniversary last year. The fund is managed by the SLO County Community Foundation and began with an initial $20,000 donation that will grow with a contribution from every loan they close.
Gifts are intended for organizations that benefit affordable housing or provide educational support for people in need. It is envisioned this will include workforce housing, green building, youth and social services housing, disabled housing, and scholarships in the finance and building fields.
The first award of $1,000 was given to the Central Coast Realtors® Charitable Foundation “Agents for Change” designated for 40 Prado, the homeless shelter that will replace the aging Maxine Lewis Memorial Shelter and the Prado Day Center in San Luis Obispo. 40 Prado is envisioned as a clean and safe haven for those in need, single mothers, children, returning veterans, and others who find themselves homeless due to poverty, job loss, emotional hardship/illness, or other economically disabling situations.
