TRANSLUCENT WATERCOLOR PORTRAITS
OCT 14 – OCT 16
OVERVIEW // Join watercolor artist Jeannie Vodden in this 3-day watercolor workshop focusing on translucent watercolor portraits. Known for her patient teaching methods, watch Jeannie as she demonstrates her rhythmic wet-on-dry, wet into wet, and glazing approach to watercolor using a limited palette of transparent staining colors.
If you are new to portraits, you will be entering a great new adventure! If you’re experienced in painting faces and figures, you will enjoy learning and watching Jeannie’s transparent limited palette techniques.
Jeannie will give plenty of demonstrations and instruction. She will bring photos that you can work from or you can bring your own. You may draw out your portrait ahead of time, freehand draw, trace, or project your own image. This workshop will include watercolor demonstrations, plenty of painting time, individual coaching, and gentle critiques. Artists will gain skill in watercolor techniques, the use of a limited palette, ways to see and paint light and color, and techniques to heighten color.
Enjoy the fun and rewarding challenges presented by painting watercolor portraits!
About the instructor:
Jeannie Vodden lives in the foothills of the Northern Sierra Nevada Mountains. Her charming cottage studio is located on the Jackson Creek in Jackson, CA. This is where she dedicates her time to expressing her love and passion for art in painting, drawing, teaching and continuing study of art and philosophy.
Jeannie Vodden’s interest in the complex textures and patterns found in both natural and man-made objects is the starting point for most of her paintings. She adds natural light, sometimes a figure, occasionally a dash of fantasy, and pulls it all together with a limited palette. Her preference for the complex play of form and light is balanced by her preference for a very simple palette — starting with only three colors, and seldom using more than six, she glazes many transparent layers to achieve great richness and depth of color. In Jeannie’s words, “My desire is to combine a sense of wonder with an experienced artist’s hand.”
