Hoping to see that one day can make a difference, the San Luis Obispo County Community Foundation’s Growing Together Fund will join with groups across the nation for Give OUT Day on Thursday, May 9th.
Bolder Giving, in partnership with the Kevin Mossier Foundation and Forward Motion, has announced the launch of Give OUT Day. This new national initiative’s focus is to help mobilize thousands of individual donors across the county to donate in support of the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender & Queer nonprofit community.
“Less than 5% of the LGBTQ community gives to an LGBTQ cause, according to research from the Horizons Foundation and Movement Advancement Project,” says Bolder Giving’s Executive Director Jason Franklin. “Give Out Day aims to raise awareness of the need to support LGBTQ nonprofits and elevate the level of LGBTQ philanthropy.”
Since 2001, the Growing Together Fund has promoted philanthropy in support of equality for the lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender community in San Luis Obispo County.
“The Growing Together Fund has provided over $110,000 in grants to local nonprofits addressing a variety of issues affecting our LGBTQ community,” says Suzanne Fritz, advisory committee chairperson for the Growing Together Fund. “Our Advisory Committee has set a goal to raise $375,000 for a permanent endowment at the Community Foundation. We are excited to join a nationwide movement that will energize support for our efforts.”
