Pacific Eye is sharing the spirit of the holiday season with $10,000 in total contributions to local non-profit organizations this week as a result of its 6th annual Pacific Eye Gives Back Challenge. Thousands of supporters from across the Central Coast cast votes online and in Pacific Eye’s offices throughout November, with the top-three organizations capturing the largest donations.

Honor Flight Network secured the $5,000 first-place donation in the contest. The organization’s mission is to honor all of America’s veterans by taking them to Washington D.C. to visit memorials that honor their service. The non-profit has hosted 200 local veterans on their “Tour of Honor” to date. With Pacific Eye’s donation, Honor Flight Network Central Coast intends to send a new group of local veterans to the nation’s capital.

Following in second, Pacific Wildlife Care earned a $2,250 donation in the Pacific Eye Gives Back Challenge. The Morro Bay based non-profit treats nearly 3,000 wild animal patients every year with the goal of returning healthy animals to the wild. Pacific Wildlife volunteers maintain a hotline open every day of the year to respond to public appeals for help with distressed wildlife. They also provide educational presentations for local organizations and schools.

Family Care Network came in third and will receive a $1,000 donation. The community-based organization provides clinical and treatment services and support to children and youth in a family setting, preferably their own, and within their community, with the goal of enhancing their safety, wellbeing and permanence, and to foster stable and self-sufficient families.

The remaining seven organizations, San Luis Obispo Womenade, Santa Maria Valley Humane Society, Bike SLO County, Meals That Connect, Dana Adobe, SLO Botanical Garden, and the Paso Robles Children’s Museum will each receive a $250 donation.

The eligible organizations were selected from dozens of non-profits nominated by community members earlier this year. The eye care practice’s annual contest was designed to honor the outstanding organizations that make positive change visible on the Central Coast. 2017 marks the sixth year that the contest has been held.
