This event will be held on Saturday, February 10, 2018 at 8pm, at the Performing Arts Center in San Luis Obispo. Mike Birbiglia has entertained and amused audiences across the globe, from Australia to New York City through his comedy and films and is a regular contributor to Public Radio’s This American Life. Two of his most recent shows, My Girlfriend’s Boyfriend and Thank God for Jokes have been filmed for Netflix, and he has recorded four albums for Comedy Central Records. In addition to performing live, Birbiglia is an author and filmmaker who wrote, directed and starred in two acclaimed films, Sleepwalk With Me and Don’t Think Twice. His book Sleepwalk with Me and Other Painfully True Stories was a New York Times bestseller and also a Finalist for the Thurber Prize for American Humor. As an actor he has appeared on Orange is the New Black, Inside Amy Schumer, and Girls, as well as in the films Trainwreck, The Fault in Our Stars, and Popstar.

Mike Birbiglia’s most recent show, Thank God For Jokes, was referred to by Neil Genzlinger of The New York Times as “the best night I’ve spent in a theater in a very long time.” Additionally, he was the recipient of the Stand-Up Comedian of the Year Award at the Just for Laughs Comedy Festival and was also the recipient of the The Kurt Vonnegut Humor Award. His newest show that he is bringing to the Performing Arts Center, The New One, approaches an entirely new subject in a new way, but with the same heart and humor that we have come to expect from Birbiglia. According to Rotary President Garret Olson, “You won’t want to miss Mike Birbiglia’s show The New One – it may be the best one.”
