The Central Coast Children’s Choir (CCCC) will perform on February 23 at the Performing Arts Center as part of the San Luis Obispo Responds fundraising concert to raise money for victims of Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico and Thomas Fire and mudslide in Santa Barbara County.
The Advanced Vocal Ensemble or AVE, a chamber choir of county-wide high school girls CCCC led by Melody Svennungsen, will perform at the concert.
“Music brings communities together,” said Svennungson, who is also Co-Artistic Director for the CCCC. “Our children want to put their vocal talents to work to raise money for those in need close by in Santa Barbara and far away in Puerto Rico.”
Serving the community is not new to CCCC, which has been providing scholarships to children throughout SLO County who want to learn how to read music and perform in public but cannot afford tuition due to personal financial hardship.
“We are pleased to be invited to perform at this important event,” said 2018 CCCC President Newlon Miller, whose daughter will perform at the fundraising concert. “We want to assist our neighbors to the south rebuild after the horrific fire and mudslide. And, more than 700,000 children on Puerto Rico have been impacted by the devastating hurricane last fall. We are here to help them.”
All tickets are $25. Donations and net proceeds from ticket sales will be given to the United Way, Direct Relief and the United Methodist Committee on Relief, and designated for relief efforts for survivors of the Puerto Rico hurricane and the Santa Barbara County fire and mudslides. The purchase of a ticket does not qualify as a charitable donation.
