The French Hospital Medical Center Foundation is proud to announce that the sixth annual “Share the Hope” event, held at the Hearst Ranch on April 20, 2013, raised more than $280,000. All proceeds from the event benefit the Hearst Cancer Resource Center at French Hospital. This sets a record for the most funds raised at a French Hospital Foundation event since its inception in 2005.
Hosted by Steve Hearst, this event celebrated the fifth anniversary of the opening of the Hearst Cancer Resource Center and paid special tribute to the legacy and memory of George R. Hearst, Jr., whose memory will continue to live on through the many cancer patients being served by the Center every day. The evening featured a champagne reception alongside the Neptune Pool at the Hearst Castle, a gourmet dinner at the Hearst Ranch Dairy Barn, live music by Grammy winning artist Louie Ortega, as well as live and silent auctions.
A special call to action during the live auction raised more than $130,000 for the Resource Center’s Angel of Hope Fund, which provides financial assistance for special needs of cancer patients and their families. Over the past six years, “Share the Hope” events have raised more than $923,000 to benefit the Resource Center.
The Resource Center collaborates with community and physician partners to provide supportive and educational services necessary for cancer patients to understand their disease, manage treatment, and maintain dignity and quality of life throughout all aspects of their cancer experience. Staffed by oncology professionals, the Center houses the latest information on cancer treatment options, nutrition, pain management and stress reduction. The Center also features a Resource Library and an Appearance Center, as well as hosting everything from laughing classes and yoga, to lectures and support groups.
All services provided by the Center are offered at no charge to clients. Since opening in 2008, the Center has experienced more than 34,000 visits and contacts from cancer patients and family members, as well as many community organizations.
