Last Saturday was a special day for one SLO County mom at the 29th Annual Idler’s Mom and Apple Pie Contest. Marie Atkins earned gold for the first time after entering her apple pie in the contest for nineteen years. Local celebrity judges voted her pie first place this weekend at the SLO Home Show.
“We’re trying to find a way to honor mothers right around Mother’s Day. We thought, what better way to honor mothers than to have an apple pie contest,” said Don Idler, owner of Idler’s Appliances and founder of the contest.
Atkins was awarded the grand prize of a new KitchenAid stainless steel convection gas range valued at $2100. Second place was awarded to Tish Linsley and Erin Pottmeyer came in third.
